wjz.com - City Police Officer Accused Of Breaking Teen's Jaw

James says he went to the driving school on Baltimore Street to pick up his class completion certificate. After walking a block toward home, he says a car pulled up to the curb and the policeman asked him what he was doing.

"He got out his car, walked around, and stood a couple feet in front of me," said James.

James says he had not done anything wrong and he did not have anything illegal. So he says he told the officer 'go ahead and search me.'

He says that's when he felt the jaw-breaking blow.

James' lawyer says the teen was not arrested. He later pointed out the task force officer and provided the tag number of his vehicle, which was in the parking lot of the Western District police station.

Police confirm they're investigating. The sergeant has not been charged with any crime and is still on duty.

Here's my question....Why??

Here's my question....Why??

Because they want to exacerbate stories about police brutality by protecting the bad apples among them?

That's the only thing I can think of, unless there's more to the story. I don't trust the media to give it to me straight anymore.

Here's my question....Why??

Should every police officer who is accused be suspended with pay until the investigation is complete?

For a violent felony, I'd say yes.

I concur. Any other investigation they should at the very least be placed on desk duty. We all know being a cop is a stressful job. Being under investigation makes it even more stressful. Even if you were innocent of the charges, you will be on a shorter fuse/temper due to the higher levels of stress and could erupt. Better to be safe than sorry.

I am sure this kid is a saint. But I do remember s few years ago how drug dealers in LA were paying people to file complaints against narcotics officers. This of course took the officers off the street and let the drug dealers have more room to deal. The dept. finally caught on when they realised the same people were filing the same charges over and over again. Some agenices will field any complaint from anybody. Bad guys quickly realized how to tie up resources. ....Not that this would happen anywhere else....

Sarcasm? Because even if the kid did have dope on him (no reports of that) did he deserve to have his jaw broken?
My answer is no, unless he assaulted the officer, which is not what I believe is said to have happened.
