Class Action Lawsuits...

Most of the ones I've seen/participated in were opt OUT, rather than opt in. A couple of months ago, I got about $160 in the mail from a Class Action Suit against Koons Automotive...I'd forgotten there even was a suit so that was a nice surprise. That's the biggest one so far, mostly they seem to be $20 or $30, but who's to complain?

We got the notice about the BofA suit, but since we don't bounce checks we probably won't see any of that one.

Since there's really nothing you have to do (no lawyer to hire, no showing up at court anywhere, etc) I'd never opt out of one, and if it's opt in and can be done online or through the mail, I'd go ahead and do it anyway.

I've was apart of one and now own stock in MetLife....there was an issue with some of thier 501(c)3 accounts being confused with 401k's and Metlife made quite a bit of money

Two of my boys are part of the one for BofA....they would overdraw by a couple of dollars around payday and by the time they got money in there the next payday, BofA would charge them about half of their check for overdraft fees which made them overdraw again

Correct. But in some cases if it involves an employer it is awarded differently. At least it was in B's case w/ the not paying overtime correctly. It was paid out based on how long you were with the company.

I was involved in one with my past employer as well and got about $2000. We worked like dogs to get promoted and they didn't pay us for it. But we didn't complain because it was just a known fact there that if you wanted to move up, you needed to put in the time. Nobody told us to stay late, we just did. Someone in our CA office started the suit, their labor laws out there are very strict.

By the time the suit was filed, I had been promoted to management. I didn't feel bad about cashing the check, I had earned it and then some. Then I had to kick my people out of the office at quitting time because the company didn't want to pay OT and didn't want to slammed with another suit.
