Clinton Living The High Life?

This excerpt about Clinton's recovery caught my eye.

"Clinton's doctors will decide when he can be moved out of the intensive care unit. It was possible he would go to the hospital's McKeen Pavilion, where patients are treated to a piano player at a daily complementary high tea. Other perks include meals prepared by a gourmet chef and concierge service."

I wonder if this level of service would have been included in his proposed 1992 National Health Care Reform? Fascinated, I searched for some more information on the McKeen Pavilion...

"The McKeen Pavilion is a private, luxury medical-surgical unit with fifty-eight single bed rooms on the top floor of the hospital... Each room has sweeping views of the Hudson River or of New York City. The cuisine is prepared by a separate kitchen, which also serves a restaurant available to patients, guests and families. A high tea is provided each afternoon in the atrium. The rooms are comfortably large with appropriate furnishings, and there is a concierge who is available to assist with travel and other bookings. Internet access is available, as are VCRs and a videotape library. Patients may, when appropriate, be permitted to attend outside activities during their stays. This is particularly useful for patients being referred to outpatient treatment programs which require intake visits. The highest standards of privacy and confidentiality are maintained at all times."

This reminds me of Christy's hospital visit in April, when she laid on a gurney in the ER hallway for over 8 hours with the other gurney jockeys, before getting her very own personal cubicle. Ahh, what times...

He'll probably get all kinds of "personal" services too........ makes me want to vomit. And I can't stand hearing him referred to as "president clinton". He was never MY president....... (of choice anyway).

Now Steve...

...let us not begrudge what's due or betters.

One must have somewhat acceptable surroundings for succesful recovery so one may return to looking after the 'little' people ASAP.

You're right Larry. Maybe we should start a drive to collect donations to pay for his "out-of-pocket" expenses.

In all fairness,
I would imagine that part of the reason the hospital is moving him to the luxury wing is due to a request by the Secret Service. Much easier to control access, thus provide security in such a surrounding as opposed to being amongst the general population of the hospital. Kind of like child molesters in prison. Put them in solitary confinement in order to protect them from the people that would want to kill them.

Yes!

...we need slogans...

"I feel my pain"? No, no...

How about "It depends on what quadruple bypass means..."

No...how about..."I did NOT eat that cheeseburger, Ms. Lewinsky"

Uhmm..."My Dr. promised I'd still be able to enjoy a good cigar..."

To those offended, we're just playing here. I'm glad he's fine. Have a heart.

I am not deriding Clinton for receiving this treatment. After all, he or someone is going to pay for it. And according to the hospital's website, "financing is available" so I bet it don't come cheap!

I simply brought it up because he championed health care for all as president, and you know that if he'd been successful, only the very rich would even be able to get treatment like this, if able to get a quadruple bypass at all. Look at socialized medicine elsewhere. There is a reason that foreigners come here for medical treatment.

Let's face it, we live in a class-based society, and Clinton is of the "upper" variety. But Democrats are the first to try to sell a bill of goods that promise equality for all, equal opportunities, etc. This just exemplifies (with Clinton yet again, especially) that what he preaches is fodder for the masses.

I think he was for health care for everyone, but did not try to limit what money can buy.

Um...we're talking about a guy who went on and on about how public schools were so great, then promptly enrolled his daughter at Sidwell Friends.

However, he IS a former President and should be afforded the best care possible, complete with security and entertainment. A charity ward would be inappropriate. It's the hypocrisy that makes him a target.
