Cloth diaper/organic baby supply store

I'm considering opening a cloth diaper/organic baby supply store in St. Mary's. I go back and forth with whether enough people would even be interested. As far as I know, there is nothing like it around here. And the county is ever changing/growing.

Any opinions?

I think a diaper service company might be more in demand around here. Pick up the crappy cloth diapers clean and return them.

I personally would love to see one, and had considered opening one but I agree not sure if there is the market for it. Though I have talked to people who said they would do cloth/baby wear ect if they had known about it or had a local place to look ect.

There have been a few diaper services in the area over the years and they all went belly up from lack of interest. It's a good idea and you'd think it would be a smash, but apparently not.

Consider opening an online store. If you have to rely on the local area to buy organic baby supplies, you have a very very small market. But online, it opens you up to a world of potential customers. Plus it's a lot less expensive to get started.

Maybe go talk to the organic grocery people in Leonardtown - is it Good Earth? They might let you go in with them and offer your service out of their store.

I wouldn't have used this service for my youngin' when he was wearing diapers.

But then, I don't eat organics, I am a hard-core meat-a-tarian, I don't recycle, and I don't drive a hybrid. :ohwell:

But at least your husband rides a little scooter.
But, but, but.... he got a NEW, BIGGER, BETTER scooter. One good thing about it is that it gets great gas mileage. I think that I should get the bike and let him walk; he's get great gas mileage then.

CLoth diapers are a lot more a PITA than most would be willing to admit.

Your kid craps his diaper at the mall with a disposable you take him, change him and throw away the diaper for new one. With cloth, you take him change him, put on a new diaper, and then store the crappy diaper for the trip home.. FUN STUFF!

AND even though you don't have to wash them, you still have to rinse out the crappy diapers yourself before the service picks them up.

I've never heard of organic babies. Do you just not use fertilizer and pesticides? Or are they "free range?"

I know it's not legal to sell regular babies. Are you allowed to sell the organic ones?

And they are not any better for the environment. Why would people put themselves through that?

Now since cotton is a renewable resource, if they made disposable cotton diapers.. WIN WIN!!

Still won't help the landfills.. but would make the granola eaters feel better.

Actually, you rinse the poopy diaper in the restroom toilet, then store the wet dipe in a plastic bag until you get home. It's not really that big of a deal.

I used them because my son was prone to diaper rash and cloth breathes better. Plus cloth and a plastic pant decreases incidences of diaper blow out. At least that was my experience.
