Going down to zero tonight, using backup generator. No idea when power might be restored. Propane heater and space heater going full bore, have enough for a couple days. Generator will power lights, cell phone and internet router, stove and space heater. Truck stuck on driveway, oh goody, afraid to try and move it because if I slide laterally any more I'm going down hill on roof. Snowed all day yesterday LOL just great. Should generator and propane shiit the bed it's off to the vehicles for heat. Generator will power heat pump BUT since it's so cold and more than a 2 degree differential on thermostat the aux/emergency wants to kick on and stalls 9.5K generator out.
Any suggestions?

Just came back on.......... hope it last until Sunday when it's expected to warm up!
You've only got one problem solved. Now what are we gonna do about getting that truck unstuck? Unless you have enough beer to last you till spring thaw....

That happens tomorrow, have a important Dr appt Thursday and STYX concert in Cherokee Friday. From now on one on top the driveway one on bottom on flat when weather threatens, live and learn. Unfortunately the truck has both the old Envoy beater and Mustang blocked.

Did I miss something, weather sites say 18-20 tonight, maybe down to 17 tomorrow mid-morning. Where's the zero degrees coming from?

Windchill
Windchill can only affect a person/object until they reach the temperature of the wind (which is usually the ambient temperature). So if your house is well insulated and you're not leaking a lot of heat to your outside panels the windchill shouldn't have much affect on the internal temperature.

He mentioned he had a heat pump, and windchill has a negligible effect on air-source heat pumps. That said, most heat pumps start losing efficiency fast once they get below freezing, but most in the last 10 years or so should still operate at 18-20 degrees.

I have no doubt my HP is very inefficient, I suspect it's original equipment 20 years old but idk that for sure. I am surprised tho, now 9 degrees outside and I measured at ducts 80 degree air and that is NOT the aux/emergency kicking in. When that kicks in it's much hotter........ like a toaster. Just hoping it hangs in there for another week.

What state do you live?

Maybe bite the bullet this spring and upgrade the whole system? Convert your heart pump to use the propane as backup/emergency heat. Also get that wood stove.
