I've seen those but I would actually like "personal" opinions about the jointMikeinsmd said:
Thanks!cattitude said:We used to go there as kids, it was like Chesapeake or North Beach back then. We have friends that used to have a place there a few years back but they still come up from Florida to spend time there. It has been totally re-done and it a nice place. Not sure what there is to do for kids. And the beach is on the Potomac.

I agree, I also think that "beach" is a bit grandiose for a sandy stretch on a big river.righttobeararms said:I used to go there when I was a kid and they actually had shops along a boardwalk and an arcade and stuff similar but a lot smaller than Ocean City,....but last time I was there the place was dirty. no shops and to be quite honest the people that were hanging out at the beach seem to be a little on the Thuggish side.
I would not reccomend taking kids there to go to swimming and play on the beach.
On the other hand there is a another place that is down route 3 over that direction called Westmoreland State Park and the beach over there is nice, they also have a camping ground, fishing, a place to buy snacks and drinks and a pool that you pay a few bucks to use for the day and the people were very friendly.

That's the impression I got when I stayed there recently. Days Inn built a new motel there about four years ago, but the interior looks like it hasn't been maintained well. The town has a land-that-time-forgot feeling, almost like Leonardtown did about 20 years ago. I think the town is ready for some Ches/North Beach-type revitalization, and that could happen since Dahlgren is nearby.righttobeararms said:but last time I was there the place was dirty. no shops and to be quite honest the people that were hanging out at the beach seem to be a little on the Thuggish side.
They used to have casinos on piers with slots. (the potomac is all in MD) The last "Pier" bar got blown out in the hurricane last year. They had keno and off track betting in addition to bands and booze.righttobeararms said:I used to go there when I was a kid and they actually had shops along a boardwalk and an arcade and stuff similar but a lot smaller than Ocean City,....but last time I was there the place was dirty. no shops and to be quite honest the people that were hanging out at the beach seem to be a little on the Thuggish side.

Think they're still lamenting the easy gambling money instead of developing the beach front.
