I commute from LaPlata to Old Town, going thru Bryan's Road, during the work week. If I leave my house by 5:45 a.m. I am usually at work well before 7 a.m. If I leave my office at 3:30 p.m., I am usually at home by 4:30 p.m. Now - if there is an accident along the way or if it is raining - it could add hours onto the commute!!
I've been commuting from La Plata to either McLean or Reston for the past 18 years or so and have to leave the house by 4:30 to get to Reston by 5:40. Have had to leave earlier and earlier every year to stay ahead of the traffic. Last year the Tri-County Council held a meeting for people interested in car-pooling, van-pooling, public transit, etc from Southern Maryland but every entity giving presentations were for commuting into DC only. I received a letter last week saying they were about to hold a meeting for people commuting into Northern Virginia but I won't be able to make it to the meeting. I don't have the details with me but it should be available on the Tri-County Council Web site.

Ahh.. Sounds like I may be the winner.

I commuted from Lexington Park to Tysons Corner for 2 1/2 years.

I could get there at 715 if I left at around 545.

The evening... Ha... what a joke... anywhere between 2-5 hours..

I was going from Brandywine to Leesburg for 2 years. Left my house at 4:30 to get there around 6-6:30. Getting home was the same 2-5 hours. I put 32,000 miles on my Magnum in about 8 months.

Eh nice hike :) it sucked and sucks... I am glad I got a new job last August and my commute is a whole 15 miles..It use to be about 8 minuets when I commuted to the main office, but now I am on Govt site... which still beats the traffic :)

I am considering a move to a house around Bryans Road/Marshall Hall. I currently work in Old Town Alexandria. I've lived in the area for a while, so I am well aware of the bridge traffic, which is why I am hesitating to make the move. I was wondering if someone would be able to tell me how bad the traffic really is into Virginia, and what I can expect in terms of commute time?

I live in Bryans Road and I travel to Bolling AFB and I can get to work in 30 minutes but of course I'm not crossing the bridge. To me it always looks very backed up going into VA. Fridays are the worst. I wouldn't want that commute unless the money was very good.

By the way Bryans Road isn't a bad area to live in. It has built up a bit since I was a kid. There is actually traffic now which I don't like but its a nice town.
