Completion of the school year

Gee Ya Think
I think they will give it a try for a few weeks and call the school year finished. Teachers can send course recommendations for next year through the mail and have a drop off area for school books somewhere outside the school.

yes the coming school will be interesting .. I am sure most systems are going to suffer capacity issues due to the sudden influx of users

I just wish they’d let us know about graduation. I know they probably have no idea right now but hopefully they are thinking about it.

I wonder. Since all the teachers aren't, "working", as well as, county, "non-essential governmental employees", will they stop being paid? To suffer as the rest as the taxpaying pubic, private sector employees, are? Since the government education expenditures are not being spent, will property taxes adjust lower to reflect this? Asking for a friend.

Well, I can only speak for Mrs. Greg, but she volunteered to distribute food from a county food truck and donate blood. What’re you doing ?

First day of digital learning and Schoology website is already having issues. Got a text saying they are experiencing intermittent load errors.
No sheet. You can''t dick slap stuff like this together in a hurry. It takes a lot of money and time to work out the bugs.
The Navy has been at it for 20 years with NMCI and still doesn't have it right.

Same thing I always do. What ever I want. Don't think I could ever volunteer to participate in a manufactured crisis, especially when I have my own things that need getting done. And I can't donate blood, seeing as I was in Europe during a certain time period.

It's laughable that some people believe teachers aren't working. In fact, many of the teachers are frantically trying to figure out how to overhaul lesson plans to allow for an online format. Even better, most are handcuffed on what they can do waiting some higher up administration to covey information down to them. Many teachers were conducting online classes via their own schedule (largely optional given all the variables) but the County instructed them not to. My guess, it was because of ongoing agreements in place with certain online formats and no agreements with the various web meeting programs (zoom, etc.). There is now very limited "face time" between students and teachers. This is largely problematic for the younger kids (K-3) who tend to have a special bond with their teachers.

This is all uncharted territory and it's unreasonable to expect a fully detailed plan was in place or that the rolled out version will be perfect. This will be tweaked as it continues. I can't imagine they will agree to redoing the school year as more than majority was completed without issue. This would also create ripple effects down the line. Assuming this school year is canned (IE - no school through June), you may see an attempt to conduct summer school (has it's own hurdles of course). You may also see an early start to the 2020-21 school year with an accelerated attempt to close out this current year and then roll into an accelerated next year. IE - 8-9 hour school days for a few months to complete THIS missed year and then 8-9 hour school days to condense the NEXT year - targeting a normal (or close to normal) year end to the 2020-21 school year. Also, consider Saturday's may be in play. They may look to eliminate non-core classes (perhaps PE, art, music, etc.). Upsetting to some I am sure (not me).

If they do go to summer school, I would bet you would see some level of agreement allowing kids to miss up to 1-week excused for family vacation. This is valuable time to both kids and parents. It will also be necessary for someone at the State level to allow as it will severely hinder an already damaged tourism industry (think Ocean City) if kids/parents can't break free for some time. This is going to be interesting.

You do know “whatever” is one word, right?
"But in the case of “what” + “ever,” you have a choice when asking a question. “Whatever” is more common, but “what ever” is also used to underscore the emphatic nature of “ever” (as in “What ever do you mean?” or “What ever could have happened?”)."Most standard dictionaries don’t include a separate entry for “what ever.” The few that do say “what ever” is more emphatic than “whatever.”"

Therefore, my use of "what ever" is the more emphatic use. I will do what ever I want. Funny, the English language.

I suggest they populate it with pictures of South Park characters.

Does anyone have an kind of idea what they will do ? Six weeks is a lot to try and "make up" and this aversion to find alternatives to shutting everything down or at least, set a target date is lunacy.

I feel the worst for kids who were going to GRADUATE. Their graduation from college or high school is now unclear.

Are they likely to just say, screw it, grade is finished, see you in September? Have longer school hours? What is being considered?

I think students have been doing ONLINE school for the year, so, I am not sure if anyone is being left behind. That is a good question. Maryland was pretty ill prepared for this, that is for sure.
