Complex Partial Seizure

We used to use bite sticks, more to protect them from biting their tongues and obstructing their airway with blood. Don't know if that's changed or not
That little diddy has changed. The Bite Stick can cause damage to the teeth, which can obstruct the airway causing some serious stuff. In all the years I was a Medic, I never saw serious damage to the tongue, although I have seen the tongues bitten & bleeding.

I highly reccomend the Neurology department at Children's Hospital. We went there when my now 10 yr old was two. She started with febrile seizures when she got ill with lucopenia. She then started having Absence Seizures and after she had a Grand Mal I pushed the issue of getting her seen. Before that the Dr. was doing the lets wait and see thing and wanting me to document everything. It felt like she was not even looking at the papers. For me it was hard to get video documentation because I was the only one with her and I did not carry around a camera at all times and my first thought was not to leave her alone to go get the camera. We chose to not medicate her and she has outgrown having the seizures although I have a feeling she had one over the summer during the night. The next morning she was not her normal self. Seemed a little confused, tired, sore, and moving a bit slower.

This is no longer done. Do not attempt tp put anything in a persons mouth when they are seizing.

If the person seizing is on their side, any fluids will drain from their mouth.
