it says something about my computer being shut down improperly, which it was not, and something about loosing power, which i did not, and then it gives me choices on how i want to restart it. either normal mode or safe mode. i picked both and neither work. i get a flast of a blue screen with white writing on it but it flashes so fast that i can't read what it says. and it keeps doing this same cycle over and over. the last thing i did was try to download a update: KB929338.

Take a look at this thread:
http://forums.somd.com/showthread.php?t=112371
..specifically the comments about booting with a recovery CD and running CHKDSK. If that doesn't help, or you don't have a bootable CD that came with the laptop, you are probably going to need professional assistance. Sounds like the patch (KB929338) either didn't load correctly or is incompatible with something else in your system.

i have the CD but when i put it in it says:
To continue press C or to abort press A.
i push C and get the Toshiba screen, starting windows 95, ERASING ALL DATA FROM HARD DISK 1 creating partition for C (FAT32 - NTFS)
I have a flashing curser right now.

ooooooooooooooooo, that's not good at all....

Were you running windows 95 on the laptop??? I'm gonna bet no.... if that CD did actually start the format process.....well.............. there isn't going to be any data to recover off the laptop. Gone.

its at 11 percent completed now so i guess it will be awhile for it to get to 100 percent. thanks for posting. I am so bummed that i will loose all my files on the hard drive. but i guess i learned my lesson the hard way. if it ain't broke don't fix it. It all started because i was getting this yellow update icon. it wouldn't let me run it and i was trining to find out why but never did.

now it has a toshiba restore tool 1.0.0 has a ghost on it?????

Did the CD you used come with this laptop? Sounds like it will use the Ghost program to restore the laptop to the time you bought it. You will, however, lose everything you had on it.

Just read and follow directions. Don't rush it. Let it do it's thing until it asks you something. If you don't know what it's asking for. Post with plenty of deatails
