I would not recommend relocation to the Southern Maryland area if you are a young 20-something who enjoys the amenities, culture, and nightlife of the city.

This place is great if you're an outdoorsy type; especially into watersports/fishing....I've even heard it said on multiple occasions that it's a nice safe place to raise a family...

But take it from another young 20-something-----there is no social life to be had here. And it's a black hole...very hard to get out.

Suck it up and continue to commute.

Thanks for the advice.....I do love boating and all that stuff but if thats about all there is to do, its not gonna be fun in the winter i guess. my commute really blows though :duh:

What is there to do around southern maryland? I'm fresh out of college and already sick of commuting to Pax, but I have no idea what kind of social scene there is for someone in their 20's around here. From what I've seen it doesnt seem like much goes on around here. Am I wrong??

I'd like to move closer, but not if i'll be bored haha

Depends.... H/b/k?

LMAO, I'm only done reading page one. But I think they pretty much gave you the message.
There isn't much happening here for a single person, just the 3 B's
Boats
Bars
Bingo

What kind of work do you do? Why not find a job where you live if you think it's going to be so god awful down here?

what does that mean?

BTW, check out the Karma guidelines. Without a comment, I can't figure out if that was good or bad because 1. you're new and 2. you're in the red and with either being true, the karma you leave is grey rather than red or green.

There is more to do here now than 30 years ago when I came here. I would figure out how long the commute and how often you go out where you live during the workweek. To me, it would be better to live here and travel to DC for weekend stuff. Less commuting, and you could check out the new bars here.
Of course, in 1975, I could rent a small, furnished apt here for $150/month including utilities. Now, there are so many new expensive apts that the living costs are no longer cheap. The only apartment complexes as such then were Center Gardens, Queen Anne, and Greenview knolls. I rented independently. Saved enough to buy a house in a couple of years, couldn't have with these high rents now.

This place is just like any other place.
It's what you make of it.

Join some local lodges and get out and meet the people.
Lots of great people down here in these parts.

Hell, I'm here, so it must be a great place.

Oh, forgot to tell you.
I do lots of yard work and drink to much on the weekends.
And I drink during the week too, but not as much compared to the weekends.

But there really are nice people down here, especially the ones that buy you drinks.
You being a female, you got it made.

Cheers.

Why do people complain that there's nothing to do around here? Like if you lived in midtown Manhattan you'd be at the theater with Woody Allen every night?

You do the same things here you do anywhere else: hang out with friends, go to dinner, go to a concert, have a cookout, hit the bars, read a book, cut your grass, have Cranium parties, surf the internet, etc.

When I was in the military, people would always beotch about the place that they were stationed at.

Then years later they would say they missed their last duty station.
Go figure.
