CCNPP worse case casualties well over 43,000 people property damage well over 87 billion a price we can not afford. List of nuclear power plants in America

And by the way what's going on with the so called program to get rid of all the spent fuel instead of haveing to stage it on site for year after year.
Anouther reason to say No to nuke plants.

the spent fuel? oh we just chuck it in the bay.

You brought up TMI in the last thread but I don't understand why, the containment structures did their job just as the ones at CCNPP would do.

Yeah but the Pilot Operated Relief Valve stuck open letting out radioactive gases into the atmosphere.

I have no problem with Nuclear Power, but it is run by companies trying to make a buck, and if you read about TMI and how the project was rushed online so MetEd and the plants owner GPU could get 40 mil in tax breaks that yr and qualified for 50 mil rate increases ......... it makes one wonder

A lot of Nuclear Accidents have been cause by plain Human Error ..... from a moron that was testing for air leaks between a containment dome and the building next to it, via a cable way, with a candle, When the worker set the insulation, that is supposed to block air flow, on fire .... shorting out control wiring going to a running reactor . causing a loss of control and an eventual SCRAM of the unit ........

to piss poor designs like Chernobyl or Japans only nuclear powered ship with a gap in reactor insulation, that was only discovered after the ship put to sea on its 1st voyage . the gap had to be packed with crewman's socks and rice so the ship could make it back to port and get repaired. it took 10 yrs for redesign and repairs to take place.

I understand that about the accident at TMI and even way back then over 20 years ago, the dark ages, relatively speaking in the nuclear industry the radiological gases that were released into the atmosphere gave the surrounding citizens a dose of 8 millirem. Equivalent to a chest x-ray, defenitely not ideal but far from a disaster, for the population anyway.

It was a disaster for TMI and the nuclear industry as a whole though with the stigma that was associated with it.

I can agree with you that buisness is competetive and that these companies defintely don't waste anytime trying to get work done when they are off line as they are losing money with every second that ticks. However, I work in the industry and I can tell you that they do not cut corners and that safety is held above $ as far as that goes.

Considering the fact that almost all of the people that are resonsible for it's safe operation house their families within the plume zone should tell you that there is a high, high confidence that CCNPP is safe.
