Holy crap! :faint: Mine was installed by Southern MD Oil and it was $8K, and I thought that was a bit steep.

That was for the high end super delux stuff.

And Patch the company offers 1 year interest free financing.

My understanding of "interest free for a year" goes like this: if you don't pay back the money within that 12 month window, then the quoted interest rate kicks in, AND, you pay back the interest accumulated during that first year that would have been free if you had of paid it back within that 12 month time frame...

Agree?

That is exactly the way it works, as long as your not stupid its really a big advantage.

What ton and what SEER? Mine's a 4 ton 15 SEER I believe. I should have asked about having a humidifier installed, but it totally slipped my mind. :ohwell:

A 2 ton 19 SEER multi speed Heatpump with an 83% AFUE Efficient multispeed Oil furnace, humidifier, and electronic air filter.

I wanted to go with a higher SEER, but they said no can do with the size of the unit. :frown: I think we'd have had to go with two separate units. I do have the multi-speed oil furnace though. It seems to help a lot with evening out the temperature. Used to have super warm rooms and super cold rooms. Now it's all good. :yay:

My previous unit was circa 1978, was definitely time for an upgrade.

I just got the second contractors estimates in the mail and they were literally half of what the first one was.

A low of just $2800 for replacing the oil furnace only and a high of around $6000 for a hybrid system, not the highest end stuff (Armstrong vs Trane) but damn what a difference.

Keep in mind that you can buy HVAC equipment yourself online, then have someone install it...

That'll cut the equipment profit out of the deal...

But whats to say they just don't increase the labor cost to make up for that?

So for anyone that has a heatpump/oil system, how much do you think the heatpump saves you in $$?

Aren't they breaking down the quotes they give you? Equipment costs this and the labor costs this etc?

By the way, Trane frequently has $1,000 rebates, so I'd check their website to see if that is currently going on?

Neither of them have broken it out. I got a few more coming tomorrow.

Ok new oil furnace and heat pump are in. Had T.N. Bowes do the work.

Here is a breakdown of the companies I solicited for quotes and my impression of them in the order I received them.

Besche - Nice guy, seemed to know what he was talking about called me back that evening with an over the phone estimate, High end Trane Oil furnace and heat pump $12000! low end Armstrong Oil Furnace and AC Unit a bit over $7000. Did not give me anything in writing describing things, I didn't care for this.

T.N. Bowes - Nice guy, also seemed to know what he was talking about, actually crawled under my house to inspect the AC coil. Got a package in the mail two days later with the basic oil furnace listed and four other options including an A/C unit, a heat pump unit, a higher end furnace and higher end heat pump. The basic Armstrong oil furnace and Carrier Heat pump came to roughly $6300, overall very professional the quote even gave me actual part numbers of the units and told me that my heat pump would work down to 40 degrees and then the oil furnace would come on.

Southern Maryland Oil - Guy that came to my house was polite seemed to know what he was talking about, also went under my house. Gave me some prices right there on the spot, but wouldn't leave the paper he wrote the options down on, just his business card with the lowest price on it, $6800 for an Armstrong oil furnace and a Carrier A/C unit.

T.N. Bowes had the most professional proposal process, and best price for the same units hence they got the job (Plus they come recommended by multiple sources).

This heat pump is surprising me, its 41 degrees outside and the air put out by the heat pump is 98 degrees, not hot but not bad. I was expecting as low as 80 degrees.

The new oil furnace puts out 150 degree air, the old one put out 130 degree air.

I have a IR temp gun if you were wondering how I know this.

Which units did you have installed? 150 degrees? That is one hot system, you gotta love that heat! What is the heating efficiency rating?

I got an Armstrong oil furnace, the basic one it is 80% efficient and a Carrier Heat Pump with a SEER of 13 and a HSPF of 9.

Oil furnaces don't go much above 80%, I was a bit surprised by this.

Its so much more comfortable and less dusty in here. The old oil furnace had a really cheezy air filter but my new one has a Honeywell F100 that uses a 4 inch thick filter.

I try to stay away from the electronic air cleaners since my moms has had nothing but trouble.

Just had a new furnace installed last weekend. Furnace with variable speed blower, digital/programable thermostat, chimney duct, labor etc. Less than $1000. Just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Another update since last night was probably one of the coldest nights of the year. The oil furnace kept the house nice and warm and did not seem to on and off nearly as much as the old one.
