Well, if you really want to find out, call the principle at the school and ask.

I personally think that they will make you keep it off the poster to be sure not to "offend" some poor child. :duh:

We're becoming a society of sissbags who will do anything to keep the vast minority of people happy. :F'ingsad:

First off, I'm not afraid of offending someone. It's her belief. If it offends someone, that's their problem.

Secondly, I told her PRINCIPAL* to eff off a couple weeks ago over another matter. I have a feeling he'd do anything he could to piss me off and go against what DQ wants, at this point.

* Sorry! :lol:

I just wonder what kind of lesson will be taught to DQ if she is told not to put her cross, her beliefs, on her poster. To me that says, to hide your beliefs for fear that someone may not like it. JMO

You know what -- you just sealed it for me.

She WILL put the cross on there.

Her school is part of the International Baccalaureate Program (magnet school program), where they encourage and learn about different cultures, beliefs, backgrounds, etc., as well as the basic academics. I didn't think about that aspect of it.

:yay: :yay: for Diversity! :thewave:
I hope kwillia doesn't see this.

I agree with this and think DQ should use the cross if that's what she wants to do. :yay:

I just saw her thread.

Let me just state, I -- of all people -- am not afraid of the onslaught of hell that something like this could bring. I just don't want to single my kid out to be the target of any negative attention if it were to become an issue. Kids have it hard enough in school these days ... hell, they can't even play tag now. I have no problem telling the principle, school board, or some whiney kid's parent to KMA-crack-and-center. DQ isn't big on embarrassment though (I've found it to be one of my most effective parenting tools.) so I don't want to bring anything on her that she might be too young to understand yet.

But the decision is made ... She'll be down with Jesus while running for Student Council. :yay:

Thanks for everyone's input! :howdy:

I dont see any difference with her putting a cross on HER poster, then if she wore a crucifix around her neck. It's part of HER identitiy, and nobody should be offended or tell her she is wrong. She is what she is.

I am wondering the relevance of a cross on a 3rd grade student government poster to begin with?

Is it between Snoopy and a caricature of Ronald Reagan? IMO faith is a personal matter and not necessarily to be used to decorate a campaign poster.

If it were Boy I would tell him there are some uses for the cross that are appropriate, and some that are not.

I'd told her that her poster should "sell" her as a good person and good candidate for student council, and should explain why people should vote for her. I asked her why she wanted it on there or felt it belonged on there, she said it's because she "believes in God, and that's a good thing."

Now, on the political front, tauting one's personal religious beliefs during an election isn't anything all that uncommon. Furthermore, as we are in a heavily Christian-ized area, if it helps relate herself to the other 99% of the population here to attend choir Saturday nights, church on Sunday and again on Wednesday nights, then it might make her a more likely candidate than the tard kid who puts Bazooka Joe wrappers on his poster.

Don't forget to bleach and tease her hair real high and make sure her make-up is perfect at 7:30 a.m., before she campaigns.

You think 8 year old 3rd graders are going to vote for the cross bearing Christian over a kid passing out Bazooka Joe? You are fired :lmao:

Give her a bag of sweet tarts and tell her to pass them out on the sly. :yay:

I don't have to tease her hair; just not comb it when she gets up. :jet:

:nono: The kids were told and letters were sent home to parents specifically stating that bribery was NOT allowed.

Well when little Bobby Polo Shirt beats her in a landslide because a bag of fun size Snickers fell out of his book bag, ripped open and flew into the air for anyone to grab don't go crying to the Elementary School Election Commission. :killingme

That's okay; she's a tough little girl. :yay:

She'll just go out on the playground, kick little Bobby Polo Shirt's ass at recess, and pray for forgiveness that night.
