Coupons

Use coupons if they are for things we use all the time, and the restaurant ones for like $5 off and pizza deals. Maybe the TruValue coupons if I use the stuff they have a coupon for, but normally we dont go out of our way to buy something just because there is a coupon for it.

I don't use them. I do pass good coupons on to my daughter, though. She's on a tight budget. Last night I gave her a $10 coupon for Fashion Bug. I know she eats Hot Pockets, and gave her a coupon for those recently.

Only useful coupons. I don't set and cut coupons out of the Sunday paper.

The only store I use coupons in regularly is Joanne Fabrics. They constantly have good sales. They'll send a flyer with 40% or 50% off coupons. This past flyer had about 12 other 40% off coupons and you could use them for whatever you wanted. :cartwheel I'm addicted to that store!

I went to IHOP and used a 20% off coupon :yay: (So basically it was like...I didn't technically tip when it comes to net expense cuz I got my 20% back :yay:)

When your restaurant tab has been discounted, it is customary and proper to tip according to the original amount. Just an FYI.

I love coupons. My family save the Post for me every Sunday. They always have great diaper coupons. I've saved a ton of money from them. :yay:

Thanks. I worked in a restaurant (edit: so I realize the hardships involved in being a waiter/waitress and how stupid/stingy people can be with money) and tipped 25% on that bill (original bill) just because I could and felt the waitress did well...I knew i'd be gettin the 20% back when I went to pay and got the discount

(I always tip accordingly..and usually well..but that is good info for everyone else )

I use them mostly for baby items, you can always get a few bucks off diapers and wipes which helps when you have two kids in diapers! I only clip the ones for grocery items we normally buy though, I'm pretty fussy about brand name items. The most I've even saved was about $25.00. It takes some planning and list making to effectively use them so I've not been so dilligent lately.

In My Opinion
I dont like them.
Pan lady insisted I take a 5 dollar off coupon with me to True Value In Edgewater on 214 yesterday (thought I would make sure the right location gets credit) so I did.

I get the couple things I need, hand the lady (the older one with the attitude) the coupon.
the price was 18 and change, minus the coupon it was like 13 and change.
so I write the check.

she goes to enter the check and it keeps coming up with the need for managers approval. so she says loudly so all in the edgewater area can hear.

Ive never seen that message for such a small check, is there something wrong with it?????

umm no, there is not.
couple more tries and she is still not getting any where.
another girl comes over and says, oh, you're trying to pay an 18 dollar amount with a 13 dollar check. (remember the coupon?)
so, the lady (the old one with the attitude) redoes it all and puts in 18 and change for the payment. All goes well, I get the reciept, and after only 10 minutes Im on my way.
almost to the door, she yells to me,
SIR, SIR!!! YOU ONLY MADE THE CHECK OUT FOR 13 (AND CHANGE) THE TOTAL WAS 18 (AND CHANGE)

so now, embarrassed I make my way back to the counter where she is still holding up the line, and everyone in the line is looking at me like Im an idiot or a street urchin or something.

so I tell her,
how much was the total
she says 18 (and change)
I say how much was the check,
she says 13 (and change)

I say, and I gave you teh 5 dollar off coupon what does 13 (and Change) plus 5 equal? take your time here.

You gave me a coupon? DID YOU? I dont remember that.
so, I point to it on the edge of her register, she even wrote the 18 (and change) amount on it.

she says, that she will have to redo the sale.

I put the stuff on the counter, told her to just do a return on it all and give me my check and my coupon back.

and I left without the stuff I needed. 25 minutes later....

so,

Never again will I use a coupon. They are for people that have the time to deal with them. not me.
