They say it's authorized by the Northern Marianas, not the U.S. govt. Sounds more like the A.G. for NY is up for election.

The site selling the coins does a lot of great double-talk trying to promote the coin.

The problem I see is that the suit being brought against the coin mfr. says: ... the coin advertised as nearly pure silver is only silver plated...

The site selling the coin says: ...is a silver clad tribute to all who were lost on that fateful day...

How can anyone confuse silver clad for being solid silver?

Stupidity?

The person who bought Jaquelyn Kennedy's faux pearl necklace for $200,000 (?) was upset they were not real. Duh - faux.

Here comes the bad karma...... I can just feel it.

But really this is a legitimate question....

Are the people buying these coins the same people who are buying everything that's for sale on those telemarketing shows... (home shopping club)? You know the ones.... they get on the air and talk about how they bought fifteen of the "whatevers" last week to give to everyone in their bridge or knitting club.....

That is one of those marketing gimmicks. "Limited quantity", "strict limit", "if you act in the next 10 minutes", "but wait", "normal value is $49 but act now and for $19.95". You know all the crap lines marketers throw at people. Some people are impulse buyers and slogans like these will push them over the edge.

Advertising is a necessary evil. For the most part, people are product loyal and will buy what they are going to buy. But, if you want to bring a new product to market, you have to advertise and do it big; Super Bowl if you can afford it. If we could cut advertising and get tort reform to do away with frivolous product liability lawsuits, products would be half the price.

Possibly, or maybe they are hand numbering each one before they break the mold.
Or maybe somebody knew you had ordered them and swiped the box off your porch after it was delivered.

Hey 2A, I just wanted you to know I paid $50 and had a star named after you. :yay: It is being recorded in some book someplace that has something to do with congress.

I have one of the coins. A tax client of mine gave it to me last year, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it.

I also have an Elvis collectable plate. It was left to me when my mother died.
