Oct. 17, 2006— Civil Rights activist Al Sharpton and Rose Rock, the mother of comedian Chris Rock, will announce Wednesday they may file a lawsuit against the Cracker Barrel restaurant chain for refusing to serve black customers.

The action stems from a May 2006 incident at a Murrells Inlet, S.C., Cracker Barrel restaurant. Rock said "she and her daughter were refused service,"

It's Al Sharpton, enough said. He thinks anybody who's white is racist and out to get the black population and exterminate them and so on so on.

I think he or Reggie pulled the same crap with Denny's a few years back.

Its probably safe to say, service was refused because they were azzholes. Look Lady, just because your Son is famous, doesnt mean we need to roll out the red carpet for you.

I can see it now.... There was a 45 minute wait for a table, she said but Chris Rock is my son, they said so what Chris Rock sucks, which made her angry "cause no one talk about her boy like dat"... Then she proceeds to snap her fingers in the air, and roll her neck around, demanding that she be seated first cause she has been opressed.....

When they refused, she ran to Al

What do expect from a barrell full of white crackers?

Are you expecting good service at Mfume's House of Grits?

I all I am new as to posting, normally I just read. Was born and raised in good ole southern md, lived there for 41 years. We moved away last year and love living in WV. But this is how I keep up on southern md.
Ok, this thread blew my mind. I am white, and me and my husband travel back and forth to md all the time, so we eat at cracker barrel in Manasas Va all the time. We have had a black boy wait on us most of the time, and alot of the employees are black and foriegners(dont know if I spelled it right), everyone of the employees we have had contact with were so respectful and nice. I am mainly talking about the black people cause the other employees can't hardly speak english. So I must disagree with this damn lawsuit. It must be away of getting attention....Also when we have dined there, most of the people eating there were black and they where getting the same treatment as the few white people in there. Just my thoughts on the matter.

Any time Al Sharpton gets involved, you can guarantee a real crime is about to get committed!!!

Im On 1.
Y does this keep happening to Cracker Barrell?

If there service is nothing like she is claiming it to be why have there been more lawsuits pressed against this company for the same thing?

Seems odd that out of all the chain of restaurants this one is continuously being sued or there are complaints about racism here.

I was unaware that this was a recurring thing with them.

But, that said, if they are being repeatedly sued for discrimination, it could be a snowball effect (or whatever you call it) similar to what happened to tobacco and McDonalds. If a large corporation gets sued for something, and the plaintiff wins, it sends the signal to other plaintiff wannabes that this is a sure thing.

I highly doubt that Cracker Barrel issues a corporate edict that black people should be discriminated against. We'd have certainly heard about it by now. So, if anything, it's individual locations that are having problems, not the company as a whole.

I'm pretty sure that this isn't a corporate thing.

Facts:

I've known a lot of people who worked in the food service industry.
Servers make more in tips than salary.
Many servers I have known, said they have been repeatedly stiffed on tips by minorities.

My conclusion is:

After these stories get repeated enough, co-workers start to believe that all minorities will stiff them on a tip, so they get less than average service.

Disclaimer:
Let it be known that I love everybody and don't believe in stereo-typing anyone (except maybe thug wannabes and neo-nazis).

www.cnn.com "Cracker Barrel has in the past faced numerous lawsuits and a federal inquiry over complaints of refusing to serve black customers, discriminating against minority workers and firing gay employees. The company has taken steps to rebuild its folksy image and reach out to minorities."

My question, though, is it only happening at certain locations, or is it a problem with every Cracker Barrel? Because if it's only certain locations, then that's the manager, not the company as a whole.

Are Cracker Barrels franchises or corporate owned? Because these stories say "Cracker Barrel" like there's only one of them.

And to clarify:

It's like saying McDonalds discriminates against blacks. A certain franchise might discriminate against blacks, but McDonalds as a corporation doesn't, unless they do it at the corporate (as opposed to the store) level.

Does that make sense?

I understand you completely and agree with you that the "name" shouldn't be held responsible for the actions of a particular establishment within their chain.

On another note, I really get bent when folks are quick to assume "there must be some truth to it if someone took the time to file a lawsuit" because any sue happy freak can file a lawsuit without having to have a proof to back it up. You rarely get to hear whether these lawsuits actually make it to court.
