Crap. No down shift.

Coming home from short (thank god) ride and turning into my street downshifting. Only got to 4th and that was it. Can't make it go into a lower gear. At all. Glad I wasn't sitting at a light. Yeah GW I waved. Tunnel vision?

Yeah, sorry... just pulling in from VA, had a lot on my mind.

Check the simple stuff before you take it somewhere. Make sure that the linkage isn't jammed with something or unhooked. Check your transmission fluid as well. I'm guessing you didn't smell or hear anything unusual.

Most bikes, the engine oil is the transmission fluid.

Friend of mine pulled up on a borrowed Sportster all proud of herself saying she had filled the bike with gas for the first time and she had even filled the reserve tank.
I asked her where that was and she pointed to the oil tank.

..... told her to call somebody for a ride home

That is terrifying. Once in awhile I ponder the implications of a throttle cable snapping (wasn't much fun when it happened on a dirt bike) or losing the clutch at the WRONG instant.

It can be rough. Broke my clutch lever off short on the dirt bike once and my left wrist at the same time. That was a very uncomfortable ride back to the trucks.

I'll be checking that stuff today guys, thanks.

Amazing what one can do when you have to, ain't it?

To your current issue, did it just go slack, no shift to be had, up or down, just flapping in the breeze or rigid, no movement at all? I know one guy, '03 Road King, where the connecting, I guess, pin, worked out and the shifter was just slack from the shaft. Turns out the pin is NOT easy to get to even to check.

Down shift fine from 6 to 5 to 4. then the shifter just stays down. It may be there is an adjustment, need to check all that stuff.
