So my nephew sold his 883 Sportster on Ebay. The guy was from Memphis and flew into Atlanta this morning. My dad picked him up at the airport and he had no jacket, no helmet, no change of clothes, no bag.

Got to the house and he handed dad the cash and asked for them to throw in a helmet. He said he hoped to make it to Memphis by tonight, he had not ridden a bike in years. He asked directions, climbed on and took off.

440 miles on a 883 Sportster, no experience in years on a bike with no windshield or frills.

I got a buck says he doesn't make it.

I just rode over 2,000 miles on my cushy Ultra Classic Touring bike and after 500 miles I was looking to get the eff off it and I ride all the time and it has a windshield and the works.

This guy hasn't ridden in years, is on an 883 Sportster going to run 440 miles after getting off a flight? I bet he is siting at a Motel 6 right now going "WTF was I thinking"

The guy just called my dad from Memphis. Guess I was wrong. 440 miles in 7 hours on an 883 with no windshield. Rough calculations show he averaged 63 mph and he stopped for gas and lunch.

He said the trip went well except he tried to push it and ran out of gas right in Memphis.

I am no biker but I had to drive to Virginia periodically. Takes me about 7.5 for about 440 miles. That is just about non stop in a car and trying to make time.

This guy wanted to get that bike down the road quick, fast and in a hurry
