Creative Storage Solutions

What are yours? I love wood wine boxes to organize things in the "junk" closet and on the kids bookshelves to organize video games, etc. I use a silverware organizer in my kitchen junk drawer to keep things tidy.

What are some of yours?

I need some creative solutions for shoes and make-up. My make-up has outgrown my traincase and my shoes are over-running my closet.

Are you on Pinterest? I find lots of good organization ideas there, and I love looking through organization blogs. I use big silverware organizers in my junk drawer too. As far as makeup goes...I've seen people use those jewelry armoires for makeup storage, but I decided to purge the stuff I don't/rarely use and was able to get everything to fit into a makeup bag. A few things that don't get used often but I wanted to keep are kept in a small plastic container under my sink. Brushes are in a mason jar in my medicine cabinet. Less is more for me lately, so I've been trying to get rid of a lot and hang on to things that are well made and high quality. I don't have a ton of shoes so I just keep them in a large wicker basket in the corner of my closet. I have seen people use clear boxes (The Container Store has cute fabric ones with a clear front) stacked on the top shelf for shoe storage.

ETA: I have no idea why "wicker basket" is hyperlinked. I didn't do that. And now it isn't hyperlinked anymore.

haha I was going to say pinterest too :killingme I have ZERO creativity that way..but pinterest makes me feel crafty :diva:

for example..Monster had a container of baby "puffs" that had a flip top..I recalled seeing something similar on pinterest so I tore off the label, and stuffed it full of the plastic bags I have all over the house that I can't throw away because I don't want them to end up swirling in the ocean. Now, I have the perfect, compact, easy-to-use plastic bag dispenser for my bag and car.

As for makeup, I have seen some neat things..including painted cookie sheets, with tiny magnets attached to the makeup containers and stuck on the wall by the mirror, that was neat but I use a lot of loose powders so I don't think it would work for me..then there was a long metal flowerbox type deal filled with those glass marbles and the handles of makeup brushes stuck in it, that was actually quite pretty. I am trying to remember the shoes ideas I have seen, one was a lazy susan type deal they rigged for shoes that the stuck in the closet to hold shoes in less space.

Great website ladies!

I use empty tissue boxes to hold plasic bags as well! I use them as liners in the bathroom and laundry room trash cans.

Shoes - I had the giant redo my whole closet with one of the organizational racks. At the very top I have a high rack and I place my out of season and special occasion wear shoes up there in clear shoe storage boxes. It requires effort on his part to rotate my shoes or I have to drag in a kitchen chair to look at the boxes to see which one he needs to pull down for formal wear. Otherwise when he built in the closet racks, I had him place wire shelves up one side for my shoes and hats. Works great. A closet system is the investment to make.

As for make-up - I want one of these or something similar.
Rolling Storage Drawer Carts | Office | SkyMall

They are basically rolling storage bins for crafts, but with drawer organizers would be perfect for make-up and various items. There are a ton of different styles out there- if you search for craft storage containers.

I'd love to have this so that it looks like a built-in cabinet in my bathroom.

I used to have something similar and felt like it encouraged me to hoard makeup or buy things that I didn't necessarily need because I had room for it. Now that I've pared everything down into a smaller container I'm a lot more selective.

Pixie is not going to pare down. You should see her nail polish collection alone. :faint:

I actually want the cabinet because we have little to no storage in our bathroom - so I'd put everything in it from asprin to soap.

Do you see me talking myself into buying the cabinet before the end of the day? :lmao:

In my upstairs bathrooms, I have those over the door canvass shoe holders that suck for shoes but are great for stuffing bathroom supplies in.

I also use one in my pantry to store packets and other small items.

I do hoard make-up and nail polish and shoes. In my defense I'm fantastic at purging though. I keep the things I use and like to have a lot of variety in certain things. Eyeshadow, daily I wear very natural close to skintone colors but like to have different variations. I have to have every other color under the sun for the days I want to get fancy.

 I paint my toes a new color every weekend.

It felt so good to get rid of a lot of it, and Birchbox has helped me keep myself in check. The fact that we move a lot made me want to get rid of all the excess clothes, books, etc that I've been hanging on to. I do have a ton of nail polish, though.

I'm very much a neutral eye person and can get by with just the Urban Decay Naked Palette for eyeshadow (and they just came out with a new one too!). Add some liquid liner and mascara (whatever the flavor of the month is) and I'm good to go. I found my perfect shade of blush, so I won't be shopping around for that, and I do have a variety of different sheer berry lipsticks/glosses stains. Easy peasy!

I went on an organizational rampage today. I tore everything out of my kitchen pantry... and I mean everything, even the horrid wire shelves. After my son painted, they put together a MADE IN THE U.S.A. steel shelving unit inside the closet that fits perfectly. While they were spackling the holes the wired unit left behind they made a terrible joke on my behalf. I was sitting on the floor showing a little crack :blushing: while I was pulling everything out of our Lazy Susan and big brother points and says to little brother, you missed a crack.

All jokes aside… I’m very proud of my boys today… they really did a fabulous job of making mommy very happy. Now, hopefully, for their sake, they don't mess it up!!!

All I have to say is whoever thought it would be a good idea to put wired shelving in a kitchen pantry when they built this house, should be shot.

In My Opinion
I just throw my stuff on the floor and somehow it ends up organized and put in a drawer or on a shelf in the basement etc...
Not sure how it works but its pretty cool... yall should try it and see if it works at your house too.

No such luck here. I throw it on the floor and it gets chewed or shredded. Not the same as put away and organized. I must have a broken house.
