I don't know about Calvert but in Charles I know they're not supposed to. You have the options of regular disposal at no cost (that's when the end up going to the shelter and God only knows what happens to them) Country burial (which is a cemetary somewhere where they do mass burials or you can have them cremated and the ashes returned to you.

Speaking of cremation for your pets..... Don't ever use Valley Pet. When Penelope died I opted for this. It was what January I still haven't recieved her ashes and they're sending me to collections for not paying them. You're suppose to pick up your pets ashes like a week after they've taken the pet and they bill you according to weight. Well they took her and her ashes have never been returned to me. And they think I'm going to pay them $130. They can KMA and I'll never use them again! :burning:

My first choice...

...is to live forever.

If that hits a snag then...

I've decided I just wanna be dumped in the Bay to help restore the blue crab population.

Very hippie-esque. I like it!

Actually, I think it would be kinda cool if my kids had a little knock at the door, right after they got done cleaning their homes (a stretch there) and some Lawyer Dagget type walked in with an armed guard, read my proclamation of revenge and...POOF...my ashes all over the place.

Ha.

I can think of little we do as humans that is more insane than burials. Every time I drive by a cemetary it's always the same: "Eighteen would come up to the club house there, nice little par 3 over the pond there, driving range over there..."

After hearing that all your life, who wants to hear it after they are dead too? :cheesy:

It's interesting that no one has brought up the religious reasons for this argument. On one side many religions say that it is a desecration to destroy the body. Other religions say burning and scattering the ashes brings closure and makes a person one with nature.

I don't see the point in burying ashes. If you get cremated, scatter them. I think it's creepy to keep an urn on the mantle. I do understand that some people need to have a grave to grieve over but cemetaries do take up a lot of space. I think building over one, whether or not the bodies are moved is disgusting.

There are no...

...religious reasons for burial other than superstition which should be reserved for Stevie Wonder, baseball and my golf swing.

If you can see an interest in burying bodies, religious or otherwise, then certainly burying ashes is of a kind, yes?

Urns are absurd, like cemetaries.

As far as using the ground, you have access to some of the best, prime real estate in the world to put up a public golf course. If more inner city poor people golfed, the world would be a better place and the dead would be honored.

They'd just have to be careful to not take to big of a divot. And not expect a whole hell of a lot of applause for a good shot.

Perfect solution.

My FIL had his father's ashes in his truck for the longest time, not sure what he ever did with them but still, that was kind of freaky!

Told my daughter that when I go just bury me in the cheapest casket you can find. If they need the space, freeze dry me, put me in a trash compactor, and then bury the cube. I'm only 5'4" so I can't take up that much space.

I said cremation. Just part me out, take anything that's still usable and burn up the rest. Do whatever with my ashes. I'm going to be dead - what do I care?

POOF...my ashes all over the place.
:killingme That'd serve them right!

What vrai said. My body is just a vessel - take anything worthwhile you can and barbecue the rest. Scatter the ashes and let mother nature take over.

BTW - you want freaky? My sister cremated her dog and has the ashes in an urn in her china cabinet. She said she couldn't bear the thought of Lassie (yep, real name) lying in the cold ground. :twitch:

I opt for Cremation!

I don't want to be in the ground forever, plus my waste all that money for a casket when it is just going to rot!

I could care less if my family stuck my body in a hefty bag and thru me in the river.

But, I don't want people looking at me when I'm dead, so I don't want a viewing. I want people to remember me when I was living.

WARNING, if you're easily offended don't read any further!

My sister's brother in-law told his wife that he wanted to be cremated and then placed into a certain type feminine hygiene product so he would be “washed through that thing one more time.” FYI, he's still alive and don't even want to know if she'll grant is wish. :barf:

National Geographic recently ran an article on the increasing trend toward cremation in the US. It mentioned that most of the South still goes for burial for religious reasons. I assume that referred to the Southern Baptists, but I don't know much about that denomination. What other denominations are strong in the South? Anyone have details?

bury me

:burning: i only ask two things.

1. blue roses at my funeral.

2. i want to have my grave dug by hand and not by tractor or backhoe. i feel as if society is trying to get rid of you as soon as possible and i dont know it just seems more traditional. lol.
