You mean they were carrying dead babies? I'm not sure I understand. The doctor checks for a heartbeat at ever appointment, so I wonder why they didn't realize there wasn't one until 4 mos. along?

Don't count on knowing then either. My son brought me a picture that they said showed the baby was going to be a boy. He painted the nursery accordingly and had to repaint it for the daughter that they had. Remember that doctors are only "practicing" medicine.

 Yep, you're right about that. I wanted to know SO bad with my chicklet, and they never could tell during any of the sonograms.

I don't plan to, only if its necessary. I don't think it will be but we will know more when I go to the doctors and I am further along. I am demanding one now so I at least know everything is ok.

Make sure you doctor knows about your family history, as well as your own.

My doctors all listened for the heartbeat at every visit. After about 10 wks, I think, they should be able to find it everytime. One time my doctor couldn't find it b/c baby was moving too much and he sent me for a sonogram.

With my first two, the place where I went for my sonogram had a competition among the techs to see how many babies the could pick the gender on, so they always took a picture for their contest.

With my third, I'd moved and the tech in the new place didn't care to look. I was looking and saw it. When I asked, they said, "I think it's a girl, but I'm not sure." That's what I saw too, so we painted accordingly.

It was a good thing I wanted to know with my little one. My mom is an ultrasound tech and at like 8 or 10 weeks (can't remember exactley but it was EARLY) he had his legs spread and his junk hanging out and she slaps at me and says "Dammit Pixie I wanted a girl!"

:lmao: Sounds like my mother-in-law. After 3 boys, she was hoping that her 1st grand baby would be a girl. It was plain as day that it was a boy.

Congrats, Jen!!!

As far as the cribs go.....

We bought our daughter the convertible and never even used it as a toddler bed. By the time she was ready to convert, we went and bought her a twin b/c that tiny mattress was just too small for her. She loves her new bed! Besides, by the time we wanted to convert the crib, we had lost all the pieces to do so.

He's still very proud of his package. I swear he's going to be a nudist. He was on the potty the other day and his "berries" underneath the "twig". I guess he had always just been sooooo impressed with the "twig" that he never paid attention to what was underneath it. So my wonderful mother tells him that "those are your 'nads'." My son ran around the house the rest of the evening telling everyone "I got nads."

This is the same child that I had over a friends house a couple weeks ago that told me "Mommy I want a cold beer."

He's not even two yet.... I'm in trouble.

They weren't given sonograms early like we do now. Mom didn't have one until later, and yes she delivered a dead fetus at 6 months. It was before I was born.

My sister didn't have insurance and they didn't see a need for a sonogram and when she finally got one at 19 weeks, there was no heartbeat. I am not sure what they did at that point but I do know it happened. Not all doctors check at 8 weeks or so, they assume everything is ok, and that is not what I want.

Every doctor I've ever heard of checks for a heartbeat at each visit, so I'm sure it'll be fine. They should be able to detect one at least by 9-10 weeks by regular 'on the belly' listening, sometimes earlier. Using the thingie that goes in ya (sorry for TMI...) they can detect a heartbeat sooner.
