critters need bedding at shelters and shoe boxes

Hi everyone. It's that time of year again when the ground gets cold and critters are MORE SO in need of towels, bedding, quilts, blankets, and even small items like pillow cases, hand towels, and wash cloths. I will try again to see if we can get 1 volunteer from each County to coordinate the pick-ups for that County and get the items to the shelter of their choice (Tri-County, Humane Society, etc). Anyone up for handling any?

St. Mary's?
Calvert?
Charles?

I'll handle the So. part of P G County and anyone else I can coordinate in my travels.

We also need shoe boxes for the kitties. Many people don't know that kitties in strange places like to "hide", and at the shelter they hide in the litter box, even if they have used the litter (eww), so by giving the kitty a shoe box with a hand towel or a wash cloth, they feel like they are hiding and they can stay clean doing so. I dropped of a bunch of shoe boxes at Tri-County the other day.

The tops sometimes get used as temporary litter trays so we can use both the box and the lid if you have both. I spoke to the lady at Payless in the St. Charles Mall about getting their excess boxes. I left her my card and asked that they call me when they have a batch and I'll come get them. I hope they do so but just in case when I'm in the area I will stop in to see if they have any.

Could you use the shreddings from a paper shredder as bedding?

Got you covered for St.Mary's. pm me with what you need.

Thanks, I picked up two kitchen sized white drawstring bags full of bedding already. I need to swing by the shoe store to ask what extra boxes we can have. I nest boxes in boxes so can get more into a large trash bag. I hope to get by Tri-County soon.

I have a shoebox and can come up with a cloth for it. PM me. Also interested in adopting one of your kitties. Today would be the best day for me. I can also make a small $$$ donation.

We have rounded up a few bags of linens for the shelters. We are still collecting, so if you can get through your linen closets, please give us a holler here and we can coordinate a pick-up or direct you to the local shelters if you can drop it off yourself.

THANKS everyone for thinking about the homeless critters at the shelters.
