We are thinking of doing another cruise this year. We usually go with Royal Caribbean, we did go with Carnival one year...we will never make that mistake again. We are looking at NCL this year, has anyone cruised with them? Did you like it and if so why, if you didn't like it, why? TIA

Stick with Royal Caribbean, we did the Haiti, Jamaica and Cozumel cruise last year and that was the best one I ever been on.

FWIW I went on the Queen Mary 2 to Canada a few months ago. I got a great deal for 12 days with a balcony for under $1,000 before tips. It was unlike any other cruise I've been on. No kids and a much more subdued crowd. Not a lot of loud oafs, wearing inappropriate attire.

Norwegian has decent food options and you can dine when you want. I went out of New York for my 2 NCL trips.

We went on NCL when we did our Alaska trip. We loved it. It wasn't too crowded, had activities for kids of all ages. We really liked the food options, especially that you could eat at anytime, rather than have a set time and place for dinner. They even had a midnight chocolate fest and a 4am pizza bar. And they had great choices for side trips. I'd definitely cruise with them again.

I'm guessing NCL is Norwegian? Never been on a cruise, kinda want to go. I'm worried about the extra costs after paying for the room. Drinks, excursions, etc... Is it worth it to get a room with a balcony or just stick with an inside room, etc.....

I've been on ships where my rooms were balcony, window and interior. After having the interior I will probably never spend the extra money for anything other than an interior cabin. I was in the room only to sleep, shower and change. I really think it depends on how much time you plan on spending in your room. If you're the type that likes to wake up slowly and linger with coffee while enjoying the view then a balcony would be worth it.

I love cruises. You unpack once, visit a few different ports, somebody else does the driving. You don't have to go on any "ex-screw-ions" as I call them, if you don't want to. The drinks aren't bad, they usually have a "drink of the day" special, but, I don't really like to drink mixed drinks on the ship, too sweet and fruity, I usually stick with beer or wine. There is plenty to do on the ship and a lot of choices for entertainment. If you've never been on a cruise, I recommend a short one for your first, 3 or 4 days.

Better than the non grey ports? Lol

Yes, much different. Naval ports don't have all the touristy trap things like jewelry stores and #### shops. A few did but not like what you see in places like the Caribbean, Cozumel or Ketchikan.

I've been on RCL & Celebrity and I liked Celebrity better. More upscale, laid back, not a lot of kids running around, no constant announcements over the intercom, etc...

To cruise to Alaska is on my bucket list! What port did you leave out of? Did you do the land and sea? Keep trying to talk hubby into this, but he said he couldn't take the flight to Seattle to catch the cruise ship.

I am so very blessed
We've done a few cruises.

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL): Our honeymoon was a 21 day Trans-Atlantic cruise from Miami to Barcelona, then a separate jaunt to Ireland. The cruise was on NCL - we upgraded our Penthouse cabin so that it included a Butler and Concierge service, and it was wonderful. It was off season, so it was dirt cheap compared to a normal trip of that scale. The food was to die for.

Royal Caribbean Cruise Line (RCCL): a 7-day cruise to the Eastern Caribbean. Nice accommodations - again, I upgraded to a private balcony room, and I loved that aspect of it. I had an awesome time, mostly because I traveled with a large group, and they are a blast.

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL): a 7-day cruise to the Western Caribbean. Great accommodations and terrific food. This time we used the ships' Kids Corner for their activities and babysitting service. Great trip, but I didn't enjoy the Western Caribbean too much. Poverty and danger seemed to be the prevalent theme there. Returning customers to a cruise line get some awesome benefits/upgrades.

Carnival: I am booked for a 5-day Western Caribbean cruise next month with my sisters. I love the idea of going on vacation with my sisters, but I have no real interest in returning to the western Caribbean. I'll just end up hanging out with them instead of doing any exploring.

Agree, Western Caribbean isn't great. I really despise Cozumel, dirty and very seedy looking, didn't feel safe there.
