Has anyone tried 1 of these plans when cruising? How did it work out?

How about people that have cruised in the past, do you think this is a good idea?

It isn't for booze is it?

Yes it includes alcoholic drinks. In this particular case any drink less than $15.

ULTIMATE BEVERAGE PACKAGE

The first two guests can enjoy a drink (who are we kidding, drinks) for the whole cruise vacation for free. That's unlimited wine, soda, beer and cocktails priced under $15. Have another, we won't tell.

Holy crap! We did it once for the kids and it was just like the drink cup at an amusement park. They almost got diabetes on that vacation.

I know several people who are cruise lovers and they'll never NOT have alcohol included again. It cost them a good bit more trying to pay as you go.

Probably just a scheme to take attention off the prevalence of cruise ship Norwalk viruses when the puking starts.

I was on a cruise that got hit pretty hard with Noro in I think '02, maybe earlier. It was pretty awesome as they flew maybe 95% of the people home at the next port of call and the rest of us that chose to stay on the ghost ship had the run of facilities. They comp'd alcohol for the remainder of the trip, at the formal dinners you could show up in Bermuda shorts and order one of everything, and they even took all of the games (board games, card games, etc.) out of the gift shop for us to use.

Probably the best vacation I ever had.

It can get pretty expensive if you drink alcoholic beverages if you pay per drink. Drinks average about $10.00 each. I think it's around $400.00 per person for all you can drink. If you purchase it, your roommate must purchase also. So that would be $800.00. Do the math cause it depends on how much you drink. Downside f you drink beer, you cannot get the "bucket of beer" to take to your room and relax with on your balcony. I was pretty mad about that. Then there's the option of buying the soft drink card if you like to drink sodas. I think that's about $40.00 per person. Tea, coffee, are free. Oh, these prices are for 7 day cruise on Carnival. Shorter cruise may be cheaper. Have fun!

Looking at less than $175 per person for 14 days. Around 12 bucks daily. That price is including all tips. 2 drinks should cover it.

It sounds like you are talking about Carnival. Other cruise lines do not have the same requirements, offer actual unlimited beverages, and their prices vary based on what you want to drink.

Ive done it several times on Celebrity. It really is the best thing EVER! I loved the feel of being able to order whatever I wanted. I added up my total at the end of each cruise and I was well over the price of the package. Its a fantastic deal. Especially if you factor in the cost of non alcoholic drinks. Specialty coffees, water bottles, vitamin waters, red bull, champagne, mixed drinks, frozen drinks, beer, spirits, etc... its all covered! Well at least on Celebrity it was. I know different lines have different packages. Gratuity is also factored in but I always brought extra $$ I found I got super great service when I tipped a little extra

Right you need to check which line youre booking w/. I know my parents said on their RCL cruise each person in the room had to purchase. My mom doesn't drink alcoholic beverages so it miffs her that she must purchase. On celebrity there is no requirement forcing each person in the room to purchase.

I only cruise with Royal Caribbean. Loved them each and have had no reason to ever change up. It's been a few years so I don't remember if it was an offered option at that time and I definitely didn't take them up on it if it was. However, even being a modest drinker, had it been offered, I most likely SHOULD have. The problem you get into is that a lazy afternoon on the pool deck can easily cost you $50-$75 if you have a few drinks over the course of the afternoon. Add to that something at dinner and then maybe a couple/few drinks during the evening/night hours. And since they give you an ID card (cash not allowed), you really have to keep track of what you're actually spending. It's a lot easier forking over your card to get swiped (especially when already tipsy) than it is handing over $10-$15 to a bar tender.

When I've travelled to various resorts for vacation, I've often purchased the unlimited drink package. It's not that I drink a lot, but it does add a nice convenience and it often times ends up being the better financial choice (if you intend to drink throughout the week).

You're right its easy to ring up a hefty bill in no time that's why I love the packages. Wake up have a specialty coffee, go to breakfast have a bottled water and mimosa, later on lounge by the pool w/ some frozen concoctions, a beer or three before dinner, cocktails w/ dinner, (add a few water bottles through out the day) BOOM $100 a day!

If you catch Celebrity's specials at the right time they give you two free packages when you book

I went on a cruise once and drank too much Black Opal. It turned things purple that aren't supposed to be purple.

So I got my money's worth but I swear that I didn't even get a buzz after some times having 4 drinks in short order. I watched them pour the booze but still not the effect I get other times when I consume adult beverages.

I did try a lot of the drinks of the day and the frozen daiquiris on the warmer days around the pool. The most drinks I probably had in 1 day was around 8. If I didn't have to package I never would have ordered that many drinks. I was quite enjoyable having an after dinner drink (or 2) while listening to music or tossing 1 back waiting for the evening's show to begin.

I have gotten the alcohol package on the last 3 or 4 cruises we have been on and will probably continue doing this if we continue to cruise. As lovinmaryland said, Celebrity does not require both adults in the cabin to purchase the package. This is the main cruise line we sail. Not sure it will be worth it if we have to purchase 2 packages, since my wife is the sober one in the family. So for those cruise lines, I will still continue to drink plenty of alcohol, but will pay by the glass. I have not noticed a decrease in the amount of alcohol per serving either. What we did notice on our last cruise on Celebrity Reflection in January is that anyone drinking alcohol had the all inclusive package - never saw anyone sign a slip of paper for a drink. And surprisingly, the bar service was very good with that many people getting "free" drinks.

My teenage daughter has always gotten the soda package as well. She enjoys a non-alcoholic daiquiri once a day while cruising. This is not included in the soda package, but she has found that very seldom does she get charged for the daiquiri. In fact, on this last cruise, I think she only paid for one out of 7 or 8. Must be her looks - guess she is learning early in life to use what she has to get what she wants....
