I'd even like to do a "Cruise to Nowhere", and stay on the ship the whole time.

Yes! :high5:

Can I tag along?

I'll shop with you onboard if you will hang with me in the casino ( I like the slots ) :dork:

Heck yeah! Carnival has one out of Norfolk, but I think it's only 3 days. :ohwell:

I wasn't that impressed with the shopping, but if you dance in the "disco" with me, I'll pony up to the slots with you! (I won $60 on a slot machine on our cruise!)

I am sure there must be quite a few of you here that have taken a cruise.
Any suggestions on places to go and the best time of year. I have always wanted to go on one and am thinking about planning one for the spring.
We've been on 1. All I remember is (now remember...we love boating) 10 day's was way too long!! We had a blast, but if you go in hurricane season and miss a port due to weather, there just isn't enough to do. 'Cept drink, eat or gamble! And that we did to the tune of   If we ever do a cruise again it won't be late summer, early fall. Spring is good.

Our next adventure will be a all inclusive in 1 location. With lot's of thing's to do. Golf is good. I'm a newbie and suck at it, but learning to love it.

make sure you budget a minimum of $500 for booze for a 7 day cruise. trust me on this.

Nickel and I had a balcony view. Which was really awesome while youre in the room. But if youre gonna be partying 24-7 and only go in the room to get jiggy and sleep, you could go with one of the less expensive rooms.

Also, I know with Carnival, you can get a "guarenteed room", or whatever it's called, where you have a gauranteed room, but you have the chance for a free upgrade if there are extra rooms available which are "classier"

Not sure why anyone would go on a cruise during the summer, much less Hurricane season....
We went on our cruise during the summer, and had no problems whatsoever. Granted, Katrina barrelled through the Gulf about two weeks after we got back, but hey, we've got good timing.

My point was that it's hot here & we are surrounded by water. I do cruises in late Jan. or Feb. when I have a bad case of cabin fever.

Yeah, the next time we go on a cruise, it'll probably be in the winter, to get away from the cold weather. But this was our honeymoon, and I sure as heck wasn't getting married in the winter.

You might find the caribbean too cold in the winter. I'd recommend springtime (March/April).

We've been on 2 Carnival cruises, on the Sensation in '99 and the Victory over Thanksgiving week in '04. They aren't called the "party boats" for nothing! We had a blast each time. Both were Western Carribean, the first we went to Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and New Orleans, and the second we went to Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Ocho Rios, Jamaica. The first time with other adults and the second time with our kids, so we did different things each time. Highlights were swimming with the stingrays in Cayman (Capt Marvin's tours), and climbing Dunn's River Falls in Jamaica (Phil Lafayette tours). FYI we booked our own tours independently of the cruise lines--it was cheaper and less crowded that way.

Anyway, there's a message board at Cruise Critic that I found extremely helpful. I got so much information there when planning our second cruise, and I'm sure you will find it useful too. Here's the website:

I usually book cruises on internet sites. I found cruise.com to be very good and reliable. I was VERY angered a cruise I booked on cruises.com (not to be confused with cruise.com) because they did not honor their advertised military discount.

We booked our last cruise with cruise.com and got the military discount (my husband is a reservist). They had the best prices anywhere and we were pleased with them. We also insured our cruise through insuremytrip.com, I think with Travelex.
