Custom Furniture?

Hello!

I'd love some advice regarding custom furniture. My husband and I have finally decided to properly furnish our house and are having a lot of trouble finding the pieces we'd like in the right sizes. Can anyone recommend any local people who make custom furniture?

I've heard that there are several excellent artisans in the Amish community but so far I've had no luck tracking them down. Any good recommendations -for an Amish craftsperson or otherwise - would be very welcome.

We're looking for wood pieces as well as an upholstered piece and custom bedding/curtains (I know, not technically furniture but since I'm here I thought it couldn't hurt to ask...) Thanks so much!

Are you by any chance looking for a glass doored hutch? Light oak. Custom made, but a while ago. Perfect shape though.

Kurtz Cabinet Shop (13860 Ryceville Road, Mechanicsville). Excellent Craftmanship, Reasonably Priced. Make sure that you have a good Idea of what your looking for, pictures are helpful, rough diminsions, type of wood, desired finish. I've been dealing with with Solomon Kurtz for several years and he has completed numerios projects for my customers. I remain amazed at the quality of his work, and highly recommend him for any furniture project.

Well, Solomon for some nice furniture, his son Amos for good cabinetry. Then straggle over to North Ryceville and see the Yoder guys for bedroom and other furnishings. Of course, there is Henry on Ryceville Rd. (next to Backwoods small engines) that does very nice upholstery work. Over to Rt. 6, there is Henry Kurtz that does some pretty good furniture refinishing work (used stuff too), and his next door neighbor Ben is in the furniture biz too.

Usually, all you have to do is ask and they'll let you know who is doing what, and where to find them. None of them has a phone number to call. You have to drive by and speak with them, in person (take paper and pen). If no one is there, leave a note and someone will call you back. Sundays are not a business day, at all.

Custom can take weeks to get, you just have to be patient. Hopefully, you'll be thrilled on p/u or delivery day. I haven't a had bad experience with any of them.
