Now, I also don't think just throwing more money at schools is going to fix the education system. We have to get parents involved (by law if necessary). We also have to have standards for grade advancement/graduation. This is where my g/f and I disagree. She somehow thinks that standards are going to somehow restrict how teachers teach.

You obviously don't know any teachers. My mom, sis-in-law, and girlfriend are teachers. And I can tell you they are underpaid. They spend their days dealing with kids that don't want to learn, and parents that don't care. Then after school, they grade papers and make lesson plans for what they are going to teach. They really do not have time for a second job...except during the summer. Of course, the "summer" for them is just June and July and many of them do get another job over the summer. If you don't think it's work, I think you should try it some time. Oh and by the way, many of them are required to get a Masters degree after X years so they are also taking classes in the evenings/weekends.Originally posted by itsbob
AND NO way do I even buy teachers are underpaid.. if they don't make enough money do what everyone else does.. get a second job.. I worked three at one time to ensure my kids had food on the table.. of course that would mean they would actually have to WORK!!
