Live in mechanicsville, and i have had a red cardinal(or multiple) that sits on the ledge of my drivers or passenger door and poops all over the car while observing himself in the mirror. This has been going on since last summer and is more evident over the warm weather. Ive even been in the car when the bird dive bombs onto the ledge and sits there flaping and trying to go towards the mriror. I dont know what its doing but its a pain the the rear end. Anyone else have this issue or have any tricks to steer them away from the car. we use supermarket bags over the mirrors when we park the car but it gets tedious taking it off/on each time you use the car.

I was thinking maybe mirrors around the yard and maybe they would go to that, but i believe my neighbor tried it with no luck.

Buddy of mine had buzzards doing the same thing to his truck. Except it was about 3-4 of them on the roof hanging out. You could imagine the mess they made.

Our solution: Pellet gun

one day the dark will end
The bird is defending his territory and when he sees his reflection, he believes it to be another bird. So he attacks it..and continues..and in the meantime, pees and poops on your car.

You can take a plastic bag, and cover your mirrors.
I had one attack the tinted windows on my car. I just parked it in another location and that changed the how the light reflected off the glass and reduced the "reflectability factor" and the bird left it alone.

You can also use a tarp or car cover.
No reflection, no reason for cardinal to attack its reflection.

:killingme Buzzards take to tall perches because it makes take off easier!

Dead trees, roof lines, barns...does not matter... the taller, the better for roosting, landing and taking off!!

It is true that the Vulture likes to glide into flight instead of lift off due to its size, however they also perch high in order to keep away from predators, and biologists also believe that in order to conserve energy, they let their bodies cool at night, then, when the sun comes up in the morning, being high up allows them to catch the first warming rays, this is also thought to be why the will stand on the perch and spread their wings, they are increasing surface area and warming themselves up quicker.

as far as pooping on the car, there are a couple things here.
One, is that if there was 4 bird poops in the grass, chances are you would not notice it. But on the car, there is no missing, so it might just seem that the car is a greater target.
The other is that birds look for thermal columns to help them with lift, a car in the sun is going to create a column that is greater than the rising air around it, so the birds might have some more "hang" time over the car giving a greater chance that the poop is going to be let loose there.

Came out to the parking lot at work the other day and it must have been one of those elephant birds that crapped on my car. Didn't think they made a bird that sh!t that much in one spot. :yikes:

When I came out of the grocery store the other day there was bird poop all over the driver's door handle. I could just barely get a finger on it to get it open. Otherwise I guess I would have been climbing over from the passenger side.

So, it looks like this?

Put out a plastic owl, owls are natural predators and many birds are afraid of them. We had the same problem and tried using the bags too. After keeping the owl out there for awhile, the problem bird(s) went away and we haven't had a problem in years.

I put a plastic owl out to keep the birds from pooping on my deck. 2 days later I couldnt find the owl because it was totally covered in poop.
