Dang it... tough love hurts!

My son spent the last 4 weeks doing his science experiment on phototropism. He captured his data and findings and pulled all the info together for the final report this past weekend. Our computer at home went on the fritz so I brought his written draft to work and printed it out for him. I even put it in a nifty clear coated report cover. We made a good team. It looked pretty darn good, if I say so myself. I handed it to him as he got in my truck yesterday evening and said, "Put it in your bookbag right now, so that there is no chance of you forgetting it tomorrow." Well, as I got out of my truck this morning... my eyes zoomed in on the FREAKIN RESEARCH PAPER IN THE NIFTY CLEAR COATED REPORT COVER...:tantrum :tantrum :tantrum

He will automatically loose 5 points for not turning it in today...:banghead: I'm not driving that report to school. He insists on learning the hard way... so be it...:banghead: But dang it hurts my heart to be this way... I'm hyperventilating...:bawl:

Ack, I'm sorry to hear that he forgot it. However, kudos to you for sticking to your guns and making him learn the hard way. I completely agree w/that. :yay:

Good for you Kwilla. :yay: As hard as it may be it is good that you are instilling a sense of responsibility in your child. I have been in your shoes more times than I would like.

Went through the same thing with my daughter. Did the same thing. She learned the hard way. Now she's in college. I don't think she forgets anymore because she gets good grades. She finally realized after she left high school that it's her future if she fails. The light bulb came on in her blonde little head.

And I know how tempting it was to just take the report in. :huggy: from one Mom of "Forgetful" to another.

It was hard for me not to run it to him, but I know that it is better for him in the long run if I don't. He is in 7th grade this year and he got a 3.25 GPA on his first quarter report card. This isn't the 4.0 my daughter carries, but for him it is an outstanding accomplishment because he is doing it completely on his own. I don't look over his shoulder to make sure he studies for test, I don't nag him daily to make sure he has done his homework, I don't have to have parent/teacher meetings to intervene when he has a teacher he doesn't get along with. He handles it all on his own now. But all of that is why I have a painful twinge in my heart right now... he really is trying hard. But I do have to remember... he is the one that rolled his eyes when I handed it it him and told him to put it in his bookbag right away... HE chose not to do so, thinking he would remember to do it in the morning. It's all on him. :ohwell:

You should feel bad. The poor kid has been busting his butt and now when his report slipped out of his book bag you wouldn't even take the effort to get it to him and it will cost him on his grade. Bad Mommy! :lmao:

I wish I had your will power, and I wish my daughter took anything that seriously. I would not have taken the report to school either. That will assure that he will be more responsible next time. Sounds like he is going to be a great adult. Mine won't even wear clothing that is weather appropriate.

And, Kwilla, good chance he'll never let this happen again. Unfortunately, we can tell them what might happen if they don't do as we advise, but until it actually happens to them, they don't believe it.

His 3.25 GPA is something you can both be proud of, and this 5 points he'll lose shouldn't affect it very much.

Keep up the good parenting.

Frustrating isn't it?
Just find some users you haven't given karma to and give them a hit. Then check back to see if you can give to Kwillia. Repeat until it works.
