Aint that a b!tch. Larry and Vrai steale all of that Bull Semen to put her through school, then she decides not to go back. Bummer.
I wonder if that means she'll just give us the premo features w/o having to pay for them now ... beings she doesn't need the money for college tuition anymore. :tap:

The Bad News:
One of my biggest regrets in my entire life is not finishing college. The lack of a college degree has been one of the biggest thorns in my side, since I started down this path.

The Good News:
I have managed to become quite successful - without a degree - in a field where a bachelor's degree is pretty much standard issue. I have managed to become a senior engineer, and I'm surrounded by egg-heads at all times.

The fact is, she can be happy, successful, and all that fun stuff without a degree. HOWEVER: opportunites will be much harder to come by, and when they do they need to be grabbed an throttled with extreme prejudice if they are to turn into something good. Even still, she's going to hit a glass ceiling with no degree.

I have hit it.

And therefore, I am returning to college this spring. 35 years old... house full of screaming children... Full time job. Getting a degree is going to be a hell of a lot tougher now than it would have been 15 years ago like my parents suggested.

Good for you! I think about taking classes, not because it will further my career but just for something interesting to do.

Crab, she's 19 and lives on her own. Larry and I can boss until we're blue in the face and she'll still do what she wants. Guess I'll have to return the bull semen. :ohwell:

Oh damn; didn't realize she was living out of the house again. :ohwell:

 On thinking about taking classes. I have an appt. Tuesday to finalize my military education benefits, and I am hoping I can start in January ... single mom, 31. I'm not sure yet if I wanna work full or part time while doing it, though. But I know I'm thankful as all get out to have the option! :yay:

Aside from my personal career goals being part of the reason, another big one is that it'll give me more leverage to kick DQ's ass into going to college if both her parents have done it. :ohwell:

She moved to Lincoln, NE in September. The idea was she'd start at UNL in the spring, but now that she's working for the theater, she isn't interested in school anymore.

I did it. I was 35, single dad with a 2 year old. I took online classes and on campus classes.

I resisted for a long time because I thought college was just a formality, a ticket to be punched and really didn't mean that much if you were smart and showed it. I was about 3 years from retiring, had TA benefits and decided I was not going to retire without at least an AS. I had taken 3 classes a few years before to just check itout and it was not too bad.

I went and got my credits straight and decided on an AS in BA. I started and the classes were actually cool. I took the interesting stuff first and put off the crappy stuff.

I finished my AS and kept on going. I almost have my BS in Tech Management, 9 more classes, full GI Bill and I am going to restart not the next semester but the following one.

It was tough going to work, getting the boy, feeding him, dropping him with the neighbors, going to school, coming home and getting him to bed , doing homework, papers and stuff but I have to admit it was worth it.

Oh No! I did the same stupid shiat when I was in college. Look at me! Making beans at an Assisted Living in Waldorf.

I tossed my dreams of "hitting it big" Those dreams never came back to find me.

You can have all the talent in the world in that industry and none of it means a thing. Really ~

However, when the princesses decide to throw it all away.... There isn't a whole lot we can do.

I'm actually going through the same exact thing with my Einstein.

Couple of +'s though...

An engineering knowledge base, you didn't have 15 years ago. Tuition reimbursement from perspective employers.

Let her work it out for herself. When she gets those student loan re-payment coupons she might rethink her decision.

I just went back this year. I am 34 and started back for my BS degree. I go to school online, work full-time, and work a part-time job. I can't imagine having kids and doing this.

I am tired most of the time, because when I get home from work, I get right on the computer and do homework until almost midnight every night. Then if I work the part-time job I don't even get home until after 11, and then stay up until 2 am. I maintain a 4.0 GPA every semester also.

She's working as a sound tech with a local theater company and she's waiting tables on the side. Says she's learning more with OJT that she would in a classroom.

I shouldn't care about this, right? I mean, a degree isn't a golden ticket to success, especially in her field of interest (theater). She sounds happy and things seem to be going her way. I'm just trying to wrap my mind around the fact that she may never be a college graduate.

Talk me down, Goose. :ohwell:

It would be great if she worked for a company which would pay for her school. It sounds like an exciting field. You've planted the seed so I'm sure she'll work and go back to school.

I suspect the best way to get her to go back to school is to tell her NOT to. I may try that....

Most any job now a days you are required to get some kind of specialized training. At least she'll know what to go to school for when she does. It will probably help her in the long run.
