The solar system thing could turn out pretty cool. I saw a similar idea on the show "Little people, big world" The guy used some paint that would glow in the dark to accent areas. Plus they make those plastic planets, stars, etc that have adhesive on the back and they're supposed to glow in the dark.

My daughter is 11 years old and getting ready to get a new room. Everything from floor to ceiling. Picture this. She wants an 8" white horizontal border at the top with 2" black polka dots spaced around 2' apart. From there to the red baseboard(not my idea) there are going to be 8" vertical stripes, starting with red, then black, then white. All this with black carpet. Mom says "No Way in He!!". I say why not. She's a good kid and a friend has a room similarly painted. I'm also thinking of the 2'X2' carpet tiles for her room and the boys. Anyone ever used them??

My 8yr old wanted to paint her room black so we settled on cling black circles (available at Lowe's) and now she's happy. Best part is they're removable.

Pick your battles. If it's not illegal, immoral and she's a good kid, what's it hurting to paint her room funky colors. She's the one that has to "live" in it. I'd set a time period for her. "You can't change it for X number of years", and live by it. Frequent changes like this could get expensive. My oldest wanted lime green and purple. I thought it would be gross, but that's what she wanted. It turned out really neat, and she loved it. Never asked to change it. We lived there 4 years before we moved.

WooHoo! She's planning a Chopticon room! It'll look great. (This coming from a person whose daughter wants to paint green, blue, and purple circles on the walls). Only reason I'd go against the black carpet is that your pup is light colored AND black picks up lint, etc. Try to talk her into white carpet with black accent rugs.

Or maybe even black and white floor tiles (not carpet) and accent rugs.

My son wants to do something similar in his room. That's a summertime project for me.
