Did she leave off the information of her dog's death on the application like they claimed? If so, they could probably sue her for false information but they wouldn't because it would take away their time, energy and resources used for saving other dogs.

Yes she did. She said no where on the form was the question asked. I don't know - I have not looked at the form.

Ok-Nickel (and others) If you must know, the dog ran in front of a moving vehicle, was not seen by the driver (her husband) and was run over. And before any of you bash my friend, she is not an irresponsible person. They loved that dog like you wouldn't believe. She rescued him from an abusive owner. The dog had problems (biting) and she went so far as to take him to a doggie psycologist (sp?) which was very expensive. Which did no good but put a huge dent in their wallets.

I didn't ask what happened, nor did I say she was irresponsible. I just think it's really stupid to threaten to sue someone for something as stupid as writing a little note.

The application asks for the pets you have owned in the last 15 years and the cause of death.

I know you didn't ask or say either. :huggy: But I know curious minds want to know!!

Her emotion's were running high when that comment was made. So let's take that into consideration. I do agree with her that the response from "Sam" was a little rough and rude though.

Geek - As I said, I had not looked at the application. If those questions are asked, then her bad for not providing the info. Still does not excuse 'Sam's' response IMO.

... Some of their standards are maybe a little high. It is very easy to adopt from the animal shelter though...they tend to be a little more laid back about adopting...but they still make sure the animals are going to a good home.

I have to address this - the shelter has to adopt to ANYONE, regardless of whether they are a good home, they have no way to verify this. All they take is proof that it's your home, or a letter from your landlord saying you can have a pet.

The only way they can refuse to adopt to someone is if they have been convicted of animal cruelty or are on another type of list that has had problems with their animals in the past.

On another note - this letter from Dawg Rescue, was over the top. Yes, emotions run very high in rescue, but that was uncalled for, they could have said less but still made their point.

You might reconsider if you found out that the person who wrote the little note was contacting other rescue facilites and passes this jaded information to them.

You should read it. It is the most intricate, intimidating application for adoption I have ever seen. I don't think I would get a dog from them just because of their application.

Best DAWG Rescue

Anyone heard of them?

Suz,
I recently had a very negative experience with "Sam" from this organization as well and am wondering if you can put me in touch with your friend who received that horrible email from Sam. It sounds like this is a less than professional organization and I'm trying to find out more about it.

This group has a number of "bad" opinions both on here and other places, but I really don't think there is anything you can do other than to let others know your experience. Rescues aren't really ruled by much other than our 501 responsibilities. Unless they are doing something unethical for being a 501 (if they are one), the only recourse is to go somewhere else. Basically if you don't like a rescues practices go to a different one. Kinda stinks but that's the bottom line.

Best Dawg

Yes, I've heard of Best Dawg...even supported their rescue group. Nice dogs with sad stories, great website--but Nasty volunteers!!! When they were contacted by a young woman I know, inquiring about turning over her dog to Best Dawg, she received an outrageous & quite sick response wishing her great heartache...that's putting it mildly. Granted, animal lovers, who on the surface see a dog being replaced by a baby will fume, and I wouldn't blame them for that. However, it wasn't exactly the situation, and certainly not what the woman meant. Besides what she left out is that she & her husband took the dog in from people who didn't have time for it and didn't want it anymore (to keep the dog from being "dumped"). Nevertheless, the response she received from a mean-spirited volunteer was rude, nasty and totally uncalled for--considering that she wanted her dog to find a loving home. Responses like this could & will only deter some folks from doing the right thing & cause them to just dump their dogs in a kill shelter or cut them loose. Nasty attacks on people trying to do right by the dog are uncalled for!!! Even though I understand the groups feelings, treating people this way certainly don't help their cause of finding loving pet owners for their dogs. Heaven forbid you adopt a dog from them, it doesn't work out & you try to return it. Beware!

Here's a copy of a response "Molly" of Best Dawg sent to a woman I know--Nasty & very unprofessional, to say the least:

You just told us you REPLACED your "sweet" dog with a baby. You are right Josie deserves the best...and it sure isn't you. Your deeply shallow view of life and lack of any evidence of decent values are revolting. The shelters are loaded with dogs who had "loving owners" till a baby came along.

Something is grossly wrong with a world in which non-accountability is acceptable. Well, it is not acceptable to us, and we're telling you the truth you already know if you have a smidgen of a conscience left.

We hope that you find some good-hearted person who won't say a thing (but, believe me, will think evil thoughts about you) but will take your dog. As for us, we are already loaded with poor dogs with equally pathetic stories and will not bump a dog in a shelter just to make your little "problem" go away.

Our hope:

That you stick around the shelter when you can't find someone to take your dog -- watch the personnel jab your dog with a needle and kill your beloved dog.

That you have nightmares for the rest of your life...and

Your kid, when grown, will dump you in a nursing home as soon as you are inconvenient or incontinent. What goes around will certainly come around.

Don't write back because we never want to hear from you again and have blocked your email address. Get a backbone, woman...you still have time.

REALLY SAD FOR THE DOGS (as they're the ones who will suffer) that people working for this group will cause potential adopters to look elsewhere to adopt dogs. I know dog lovers & animal rescue groups are close knit, but the folks at THIS group are over the top when it comes to rudeness, and unprofessionalism!

OMG! I have dealt with a lot of animal rescues and this is not representative of any of them.

Sure, you get sick of hearing excuses of why someone is disposing of their animals or looking to rehome them. Sometimes, they are legit and understandable (nursing home, death) reasons. Sometimes they are just lame.

Lately, the number of foreclosures has increased the amount of animals turned into shelters throughout the country. People are finding themselves homeless, having to live with relatives or in rentals that don't allow pets.

DAWG sounds more like a branch of PETA.

Just my .02.
