Daycare - In-Home vs. Center??

...and the drama continues. The 'closer' day care provider called the 'prior' day care provide today, and proceeded to leave a voicemail containing fabricated tales of abuse and neglect that we supposedly said about her (the former provider). So the 'prior' provider calls our home all furious.

Needless to say, my wife had made the decision over last weekend to go back to the prior provider, because our daughter was much happier there, and the service was better. So I guess the 'closer' provider decided that we went back to the 'prior' and decided to cause trouble. Not very professional nor mature, IMO. Is there an agency we can can file a complaint with?

Maryland Committee for Children

I sent you a pm, I have had a similar situation. Unfortunatley a lot of the day care providers in St Marys know each other or of each other and this to be a game some play.

it is a regulation that the provider gives you the information on how to file a complaint if need be before your child starts with them. there is actually a little brochure that you need to sign and needs to be kept in there file.... Im guessing you didnt get this info from that particular provider.....

My daughter isnt always sick, period. She is 17 months old and teething. She had strep, the doctor gave us mdicine and said she could return to day care in X amount of days as she would no longer be contagious. So after x amount of days, she returned to day care with no issues and she was clearly feeling much better. Shortly after this, we changed to a daycare provider closer to home. The kiddo was there for a week, and then the following week was her follow-up doctors visit. The doctor ran more tests, then called a few dayslater and stated that she still had strep, and was contagious. We alerted the day care provider, and picked the baby up ASAP. She did not return until after the prescribed period of time given by the doctor. Upon return, the day care provider stated that "her whole family now had strep thanks to us". The kiddo was on the antibiotics still, and had been teething. Historically, she has had diarrhea while teething; the day care provider was informed of this. The day care provider called and requested we pick the baby up due to her having diarrhea. We called the doctor for his input, and he stated that the diarrhea was due to the medicine and teething. We passed the info to the day care provider who refused to accept out daughter back until she no longer had diarrhea. We gave the doctor a stool sample, which in turn he had tests run on to see if there were any issues, none were found. Now the day care provider claims that our daughter gave her sickness to five of the other kids, who now all have diarrhea.

That's crazy! Provider seems kind of extreme to me. That is awful she blamed you for getting her whole family sick. Besides, maybe her family made your kid sick. I hope things go better at daycare for you in the future.

In My Opinion
Yeah - I don't think I'm going to commute again - at least not until the kids are older. So depending on where I go to work, I may try Superstars again. When I had pulled B, they were starting to accept infants. My next issue will be finding a spot for 2 infants!!
make a special outfit and say they are siamese twins.
you might get away with only paying for one spot too.

STEELERS NATION!!
I had an in home daycare provider who was like that. If the schools closed for snow day so was she, she was closed for all federal holidays (sorry you're a day care provider not a federal employee) 2 weeks paid vacation plus 1 week sick days and 3 personal days (#### I dont even get that!!!) we didnt stay their either.

With having 5 kids we have been w/ several in home and centers. When the kids are older 6+ I prefer the centers, but when they are younger I like the in hime daycare.

The woman we have now is AMAZING! Love her to death she is like part of our family now. I actually drive an additional 40 miles a day to take the kids there. :yay:

Thats how the first daycare I had was. It was an in home daycare. She followed the school schedule and thought she should have off on federal holidays. I'm sorry, we had to work those days and one of us would have to take a day off and not get paid but we still had to pay daycare. Thats why we decided to go with a center. In the 5 years my daughter has been there, I think that they have closed two or three times due to snow. I would never go back to a home daycare. Too much BS!

Not saying they shouldnt get vacation or sick time... but federal holidays, personal leave, not open when school is closed, etc... combined with those is to much IMO and that is why we no longer will use a provider who does that. Seriously what is the freakin point of having a day care provider if you have to take off to watch your own kids when school is closed? Isnt that point of a day care provider?

Sure some people get off for federal holidays, but not EVERYONE does. Federal holidays are for federal employees...sorry but daycare providers are not federal employees.

And isnt it their job to watch their children? What difference does it make if they are at work or if they are shopping? Sometimes I will randomly take the day off from work to go shopping, or to the beach, or just clean my house w/ no kids. I am paying for the entire week so what does it matter if I am at work or at home or in space? If they get their $ what is the difference?
I couldn't agree with you more! :buddies:

Wow, that's ridiculous! Her lack of maturity and professionalism is unbelievable. I wish you luck, sounds like you have yet to have a good experience with providers.

My child is in an in home daycare on base (PAX) which is regulated by the base daycare center. ABSOLUTELY LOVE HER!!! Couldn't ask for a better provider. I chose the in home for more one on one time. He gets to go outside everyday (weather permitting), the make things & learn too. He even got to go play in the snow when we had it (& the temp was above a certain degree). There are in home providers on both sides of her & they get all the kids together at times & do things so he is socialized with more kids as well. Like I said, I couldn't ask for anything more. LOVE HER!!!
