I remember when First Lady Betty Ford was very public about her breast cancer which was something that wasn't talked about very much in those days. Her openness resulted in more women going for screening and learning about self exams and that they didn't have to be ashamed about it. If celebrity can help people become aware of something, then so be it.

Everybody knows that breast and ovarian cancer exist. The only thing Angelina is advocating is preemptively cutting out your body parts *just in case* they become cancerous. Not because they are, but because they might be possibly some time in the future. Maybe.

Testicular cancer in men is very real, but you don't see men getting their balls cut off to prevent it. This sort of hysterical nonsense is strictly woman territory.

And again, that's fine - people can do what they want with their bodies. But I think it's silly. Oh, and PS, I don't want to pay for it so if that's Angie's next suggestion, she can stuff it.

Who is bitching? I am merely commenting and offering my opinion on a current event story. My understanding is that's why Angelina is being so public about it - to get people talking.

Well, if my family had a big history of testicular cancer and it was a viable option, I'd consider it. Why not? I mean, I have three kids and a grandchild. I'm not having any more kids. I'd have to find out what side effects there would be from removing them and then weigh the options. If I found out it would cause ED or something like that, I probably wouldn't do it. But if it wouldn't cause ED and it would eliminate the chances of getting testicular cancer then it would be a realistic option.

I don't know what I would do years ago. I'm just looking at my situation as it stands today. But I do think you're blowing this out of proportion. Angelina is making decisions based on information that's she's become aware of today, or a couple of years ago. As for me, I don't have access to my biological family health history so I have no idea of what awaits me so I just deal with it, if or when it comes.

Okay, I'm still confused. Are you sure you're referring to my posts and not someone else's? I don't recall blowing anything out of proportion in the Robocall thread. In fact, I just re-read it and....nope, I expressed no outrage, nor did I demand that people stop complaining.

I also don't recall the OP merely expressing "mild annoyance". He specifically said he was PISSED! and would deal with it "when he calmed down". In my world that's not "mild annoyance".

But I suppose you can read things any way you want to and whatever floats your boat.

She Is not an average woman for BC risk. She has the BRCA1 gene and a history of premenopausal breast cancer in her mother and ovarian cancer in her grandmother as well as an aunt. Based on the standard model for BRCA counseling, her likelihood of developing BC was 85%, her likelihood for ovarian cancer was 50%.

She is not advocating for everyone to do this. She is advocating for everyone to get their risk profile looked at.
