Help!

The idea with the pressure cooker was to be able to make KFC. Not that I haven't been using it like crazy, but apparently there is to be no oil frying in the cooker. In fact, there was a specific warning against it.

So....what if I pressure cooked the chicken pieces until tender, then breaded and fried like normal? Has anyone every tried this, or should I just experiment and hope for the best?

You can use oil in your pressure cooker....it's fine to brown the chicken in oil then use water to pressure cook it.

So first season your chicken (flour spices et al) - then add a couple tablespoons oil and brown it up. Then drain the chicken on paper towels. pour out any remaining oil and add water to the cooker, place the chicken back in, lid up. get to 15 psi and then turn your heat down. Cook for about 15 minutes and then release the pressure

Big tip - HUGE - let your chicken cool down for at least 5 minutes after removing from the pressure cooker before attempting to eat. It may just feel warm to the touch, but when you take a bite and that juice shoots into your mouth, you may suffer a serious burn.

If you like your chicken extra crispy - place under your oven broiler for a few more minutes after removing from the pressure cooker.

 sounds like it could work.... and by fry, you mean deep fry? I don't think a pan fry will give you the results you're looking for.

Might be real easy to over-cook in the fryer, you might have to under-cook the chicken in the pressure cooker a bit.

Sounds like an experiment!

pour out any remaining oil

aHA! This is the part that wasn't clear in the instructions I've found online. They just said "add water" and I was like, add it to the oil??

I'll try this and let you all know what happens!

There's usually not much left. I just take a paper towel and wipe it out.

I will turn on my scanner and let everyone know if you can't...for some reason.

Just sounds like you are making it more complicated than need be. I don't fry chicken, but if I did I'd cover it with a good batter and heat up my deep fryer.

Never used a pressure cooker before, but have been watching the TV chefs use them from time to time. I used to always think they were dangerous (the old ones probably were), but it seems the ones they have today appear to be very safe. You who have and use them probably know more on that, though.
