Decent auto paint shop?

Hey all,

Anyone know of a decent shop that can re-spray a car and not have it be crappy? My black car needs a re-spray, and I would be either keeping it black or going to a gun-metal. This won't be happening for another half year or so, but I'm starting to do research now.

I don't need or want show quality, but I do want good quality. I do not need door jambs/engine bay painted, unless I change color. I'm looking for something above MAACO quality, but am not looking to spend $10k. I fully expect to end up paying ~$2k-$4k, but would love to keep cost down. Of course, I also do not want to get a crappy paint job that I would have to re-do in two years just to save a grand or two.

Anyway, any recommendations? :buddies:

UniTech in Annapolis.
I have had a couple cars repaired/painted there over the years and you cannot tell their work from factory. but they are not the cheapest in the area.

Cool cool, thanks guys!!!

EDIT:

The car has a couple tiiiiny clear coat failure spots and a bunch of swirls. I am confident that a competent detailer could fix the majority of the issues (I don't know of any though).

However, what concerns me and why I'm thinking I need a re-spray is the entire roof of the car is starting to turn a hazy/smokey gray. I believe it's UV damage. :(

Might want to check if its just dead paint. I inherited a 74 Pontiac Station wagon in the 80's....my dad was going to have it repainted, because the paint had a hazy look to it....it was red. Anyway....my brother used a product from Dupont on it, and the difference was amazing....and it was like $20 but a lot of elbow grease.

I had a bad experience with Chesapeak and will not go back, my brother is friends with him and they do race car work together so I kind of expected a good job. It was a insurance claim so he got paid quite a bit more than the going rate but that did not bother me till I went to pick it up and it looked like he painted the dings with nail polish missing most of them on the hood. then had nerve to tell me he fixed the whole thing but the kid washing it afterwards hit it with the metal sprayer water hose on accident a couple times. Also forgot to replace the broken windshield and the big dent from a tree.

We did use Mikes Auto body in Waldorf when we were rear ended at a red light and I have nothing but good things to say about them. I do not know if they do re-paints on whole cars though.
