You HAVE to apply breaks as you come down the hill or you WILL go over the 35mph limit.
And god forbid you should have to apply the brakes.

I'm hearing a little KC coming on:

Don't stop it now

It's stealing if someone is owed monies and you try to swindle out of it. :yay:

Hmm...I owed them X amount of dollars. Based on the outcome of going to court, I now owed them X amount of dollars times 2. I paid it. Looks like they stole money from ME. I ought to sue THEM. :bubble:

I'd say go to the court, ask if there is anything you can do to not have it put on your driving record, or your insurance will go up. I know here in OK, they will just give you a period of three months, if you don't get another ticket, it never makes it on your record and your insurance co. will never know.

...David Letterman. 51 in a 35

It's just that it was 9:30 PM, had just dropped the kids at voice lesson, the road was EMPTY and it's a wide open, downhill, made to speed spot.

You HAVE to apply breaks as you come down the hill or you WILL go over the 35mph limit.

Attica!
No wonder you got a ticket, it's the other pedal, the BRAKE pedal!
whoops, missed post #23

Work the community service angle. The major benifit being, keeping the points off your impecable driving record :duh:

One way or another, you're probably going to have to pony-up the cash :ohwell:

BTW, I recently joined the ranks of "entraped" on a business trip to Norfolk. Rt. 17, cruise control set @ 63 mph. Head down a hill, guess who's waiting at the bottom. Driving a rental car with Mass plates, and a MD drivers licence...

Busted, 71 in a 55. No way a cruise control can slow you down that quickly on a short steep hill.

Sent the fine in, $5.00 for each mile over ($80.00), $51.00 processing fee, and a $5.00 handling fee.

$136.00 :yikes:

Larry,
Go to court. Tell the judge you were speeding, but it has been about 9 years since your last ticket and you would like PBJ (Probation Before Judgment). You will probably get it and have to pay the fine and you will not get the points as long as you don't get another ticket for the next year.

Who goes to voice lessons at 9:30pm?
He meant to say 8:30pm because that's when they have voice. He just thought it would sound better if it was later. I'm surprised he didn't say it was midnight.

For his male audience, strip club at 3am (yes, we know they close at 2!) :yay: would be the ticket...

Larry, I told you earlier. Go to court, tell the judge you are guilty. He will ask you about your driving record...tell him. You will probably get off with just the court costs.

Don't ask for PBJ...then it looks like you have a plan. Don't ask for community service. Just answer the questions honestly. This is not a difficult thing. Just walk in. When your name is called, go up and plead guilty. Act humble, admit you screwed up. It's that simple. You have a right to appear in court and be judged for your crime and that's what you're doing.

Was it near Tappahannock by any chance? They live for pulling over out-of-state drivers.

You might want to mention that you appeared in court to try and avoid points on your record. Otherwise, the judge will point you to the clerk's office.

You're better off fighting it. You can usually get off with just some community service and NO points on your license.

You just "throw yourself on the mercy of the court." Good grief, you guys are making this harder than it is.

You don't go into the court and appear to try to be getting out of anything.

I have a court date 8:30 Friday AM.

"Your honor, you look very fine today by the way. Is that a new robe? The color suits you SO fine. It is my intention today to right a wrong. This fine officer you see here today is being, by the way, is that a new holster? It goes with your ensemble SO nice, so very nice. Anyway, your worship, this here excellent officer is being MISUSED, misapplied I say, misdeployed and Miss USA'd, which is to say he is one fine, fine looking officer don't you think, your Emminence?

To wit, he is being FORCED by his lazy ass, greedy superiors to sit, SIT I say, like some peeping Tom, waiting for the smallest violation, as some second rate tax collector, instead of boldly patrolling our fair streets as he was so obviously born to do.

Your Ceasr-ness, shall we, as a people, stand idle while such a limited, needed and brave resource such as this officer is thus abused by those nefarious rapscallions, sitting behind desks, mocking your authority as local potentate, concocting low brow chores in order for this man to earn his daily bread?

I say NO, your honor! No! To speedtraps. NO to wasteful expenditures of such honorable volunteers to the cause, NO, to ENTRAPMENT!

Mr. Gude,

Your opening statements were excellent, your orration skills worthy of mention for the record but allow me to show you this photograph. This is a picture of little 8 year old Bambi. She was a vibrant young girl, a 3rd grader at Fredneck Elementary school. She had 2 brothers and a sister, a mom a dad and 2 sets of grandparents. She had a new puppy named Lawrence. She liked ice cream and gummi bears. She was mowed down chasing a ball into the road by someone who was speeding "by accident". If the driver were doing 35 as posted the accident recreation team said he would have stopped 4 feet short and Bambi would be at school right now. As it was the driver was going 51 in the 35 zone "accidently" and he could not stop in time. I went to Bambi's funeral, it was a very sad day.

Now that being said, and despite your fine opening statement, I find you guilty of violating Maryland civil code, and hereby order a fine of $200, forfieture of your right to drive for 90 days, 1 year probationary driving, and 20 hours community service. I give you this rather harsh fine so you don't "accidently" end up here before me again.

NEXT CASE

I hear what you are saying, but I've seen it happen all too often sitting in court. The person goes up, pleads guilty, and the judge says, thank you, you past the clerks office on your way in and you can go there and pay your fine. Before they know it, they are walking towards the door to pay the fine when all they wanted to do at court was avoid the points and failed/forgot to mention that to the judge.

Basically, it comes down to the judge’s style of doing this.

I will agree that questions should be answered directly, honestly, no lame excuses, in fact, no excuses period. If the judge does ask his intentions in showing up for court to present his plea, this is when he should pipe up and say, to avoid the points, and if he gets whisked to the back to pay his fine, he should speak up. Otherwise, he has wasted his time and everyone else’s.

Nothing to see here
Here's another of the all over the board answers..

I got a speeding ticket in radar which was wrong, so I went to court on it. I wasn't hoping to get out of the ticket(even tho I was barely speeding) but trying to avoid the points. The Judge came out before court was in session and greeted all of the people in the court room..He said you all have tickets, DO NOT come before me and plead innocent unless you have concrete evidence. Plead 'guilty with a reason' and tell me about it. When my time in court came, I just told the Judge that I don't know how they clocked me at 65 in a 50 because I was on cruise control at 53(truth), and I would go to my grave knowing that. He asked when my last speeding ticket was, and I told him 20 yrs ago(truth). He said get the hell out of here, case dismissed.

Judges have heard it all, just be straight and wear a long face.

I have seen judges take the bench and say if anyone has a traffic ticket, wishes to plead guilty, I’ll access the fine only and no points. Just stand in line and get your paperwork from the clerk.

For those who wish to contest their violation, once these people have been taken care of, I’ll hear your case.

Of course, there is always one clown who decides to plead not guilty.
