Deck cleaning and staining

DR does ours himself. He has a powerwasher. He may be able to lead you in the right direction. I'm sure he would let you borrow the power washer and then show you how to stain it. PM him about it.

Really? I love me some DR. He's so smart. And handsome. And big and strong.

I'll have to ask him for some pointers. :yay:

:lmao: I'll be happy to bring over the washer and show you how it works. Staining is just, well, staining. Slop it on with a roller and get the spots you can't roll with a brush. I'll check the brand I used. Stuff is good. Reapply every two years, maybe three. Or they can tell you in that paint shop in Wildewood.

I think I'm going to buy a power washer anyway - I can use it on the house as well.

Is it really as easy as just slapping some stain down?

Yes!! Just like painting.

And buy a PW with at least 3000psi pressure. :yay:

No different than other staining except you don't wipe it off afterwards. Are you really going to stain it a different color or just protect it with clear?

You want somebody to do it? Your deck is small, it shouldn't be too bad to do. Ott and I did our own..we need to do it again. I'd help you stain it. You just need to get a power washer (and don't use the tiny point ).

My family (dad, us, brother) uses the CWF (Duron) brand of stain. A lot of people use Thompsons but after years of use, my dad and brother swear by CWF.
I'm pretty sure that's the stuff I got.

I think stain it a different color. It's kind of funky looking right now, with all the scribbles from my last attempt at power washing

It's almost impossible to get it the same degree of clean. Is it stained now? I mean intentionally?

So an opaque stain?
I honestly have no idea. I think it's just regular stain, like wood stain and not paint. But it's all stupid because of my overzealous power washing, so it needs to be restained and sealed.

I don't know if Duron has a covering type stain, do you?
That's what you'd need vrai, if you can't get it cleaned evenly.

I dunno. Ours was new when we did it. We need to do it again. My bro & dad use the same color every few years..I think it's cedar something.

I have a deck thats 20yrs old around a above ground pool, its about 34ft long and goes from 4ft to 8-10ft wide with lattice around the sides.
I have normally deck washed and stained every 18 months to 2 years and have always used CWF till this spring. I my favorite CWF was the clear and they have stopped making it and only have the CWF UV which Im not fond of.
This year went to Wood's in Charlotte Hall, guy named Mike working there really helpful told him what we were trying to do with the color didnot want it dark and after 20yrs of staining the wood was getting dark after powerwashing with deck cleaner I brought one of the slats from the deck to the store to try to match up a shade of stain we liked. He took the time to open several cans and apply several shades of stain to different areas of the the slat to see which one we were happiest with. unfortnately we were not happy with any because they appeared to dark. What he suggested and we did was to strip the wood with a stripper from the store, it did a super job was alot of work we applied the stripper to the deck with a brush and then power washed it off was amazing to see the old stain just wash right off. We then went back with a slat and again matched stains and found a cedar shade that we liked and we purchased a 5 gallon can of it.
The deck came out looking good and they say it should be good for 2-3 yrs. Can't remember the brand but its the one they reccomend at Wood's.
Mike can be found at the Wildwood store on the weekends and Charlotte Hall during the week he was very helpful. :yay:

Im finished rambling on now. :buttkick:
