A friend gave us some. What do I do with it? We love ground hamburger but I'm not so sure about deer burger. Afraid the taste will be too gamey.

Venison is very lean. Mix some ground pork fat into it, add your seasonings. If you can't find pork fat, cheapest ground pork sausage you can get. It will hold together so you can cook it.

when its in burger form its not very gamey tasting. We use it for chili, tacos, lasagna, etc. Anything besides actual hamburgers.

If your friend did it right, he/she should of added either beef fat or pork fat while its being ground. That's how I do it, make patties just like regular burger and grill it. I also use it for chili, tacos, spaghetti, etc anything you'd normally use ground beef for.

Venison is great without the added fat. Just make sure you don't cook it too fast. I add Onion Soup Mix, egg, and some Worchestershire Sauce, and then grill. It's also good with Hamburger Helper for a quick meal. Let us know how your's turned out!

Illegal to buy wild game in MD. You may be able to find a hunter that is filling crop damage permits that will give you a field dressed deer that you can get butchered.

WOW--I did not know that!
I don't want a whole deer! lol..just enough for a meal or two..
I guess I will just stick with the beef:frown:

I don't add beef/pork fat to my ground meat. And I make burgers all the time, I hold them together with an egg or two depending how much meat you have.. Pack them tight, and they hold together well :yay:

My normal uses are: jerky, sketti, tacos, and burgers.. As said before, if your friend didn't add fat to it, it is very lean, by the time you are done cooking it for sketti or tacos, you should have absolutely no grease in your pan.

But to me, best option is ALWAYS jerky :yum: Just need a good dehydrator :yay:

This.

We use it for anything where it is going to be spiced basically, because I do find it to be a bit game-y..adding spice to it cuts that out and it is great alternative. venison sloppy joes are a favorite at my house.

x2 on all of the above. Ground venison finds its way in to about anything we make with ground beef..but its especially killer in chili.

Do not despair..ask at the local processors and you will find that many animals are donated so you'll only be on the hook for the processing fees. Shoot..my folks have 4 or 5 given to them every year, which they then pass on to a list of others that include me.
