They call me ... Sarcasmo
He's not old enough to vape anyway. I thought you had to be 18 or 21 (I forget which)?

A "buddy" of his (aka one of the cool kids) had one while he was in 7th and now 8th grade so there you have it. Cool kid scrapes by on the grades, no extra curricular activities etc etc. WTF? Polar opposite of my kid. Hell, I'd take the unauthorized tat, as long as it was Maryland related.

I never understood, even when I was in school, why these slacker dumbasses are considered "cool". What's cool about being an underachieving loser?

My girlfriends would drag these guys around and it was like, what are you seeing in this person??

Anyway, my standard response when my kids would say, "Well, so and so's parents let them do it," was "Clearly so and so's parents don't love them as much as I love you."

What about, 'Well, why don't you go live with so and so?' or 'If so and so jumped off a bridge (or some other extreme thing), would you do it too?' We always got that one when we were kids.

What is 'cool'?

Cool was, is and forever will be;

1. The act of being and doing YOUR thing as long as it also meets the following criteria;

2. You do not harm or unduly inconvenience innocent others
3. It has absolutely nothing to do with style or fad. If it happens to be stylish or part of a fad coincidentally so be it, refer back to 1.
4. It is sneered at by stylish, fad driven people who are not engaging in style or fad due to #1

My kids were smartasses, so it was always best to respond to them with something they couldn't get clever with.

They didn't catch any "crap" as far as I'm aware of. My boys were in sports, performed well academically so they were well known throughout the school. Most importantly, we taught them to always try and find common ground with everyone even if they didn't like the person. As a result they were able to rise above what many would have considered cool. They never did any drugs or got in any trouble even as some of their "friends" were going down that path. We wouldn't allow them to dress like thugs and they always had a curfew on the weekends and we always knew where they were. We made sure we made time for family time every week and remained close through the "tough years".

Having a strong relationship with your teenagers is key! be the parent but be a friend too.

that's just great - can I send my little angel to your house for a couple more years?
