I was reading the thread about the disturbing story about the teens and their one year old baby. There were a couple of posts about having your baby stay in the hospital room with you during the night after you gave birth.

I was just curious to see what everyone actually did. I chose to have the baby sleep in the nursery so I could catch up on sleep.

My friend had the baby in the room. She said she might as well get used to it, and the nurses came in to check on here every couple hours anyways.

My son stayed in the nursery too. Heck, if I had it my way, he would have stayed there a couple of weeks until I recovered from my c-section!! :lmao:

My first child, I had no choice but for her to stay in the room with me. I had to ask the nurses to take her to get a shower. They didn't have a seperate nursery for infants, only a nicu and she didn't have any issues to be in there. I did get sleep and got used to her routine a lot quicker. With my second, he stayed in the nursery at night.

I had an emergency c-section too and was up the whole night before in labor....so it had been over 24 hours since I had any sleep (with all the visitors and all during the day). I was so out of it, I was scared I would accidentally hurt my baby. :lmao:

#1 was in the NICU for the first 12 hours and was with me the first night. The second night he would not sleep at all. After I'd been awake for a million hours straight one of the nurses came and took him for a couple hours so I could get some sleep.

Babe #2 was with me most of the time minus the times a particular nurse would come and ask very polietly to have him for a bit. The child was spoiled off the get. She'd come in and ask to take him out to the nurses station which I could see right outside my door. She'd just be sitting there snuggling him. I wish I could remember her name, I'll have to look in his baby book and send her a card. Thinking back on that makes me smile. She told me she'd been a L & D nurse for many years and seen a lot of babes, none as beautiful as Gman. I should take him up there now, two years later and see if she still wants to hang out with the little darling :jameo: :lmao: .

I have one of those too. :huggy:

Mine was with me the whole time, which was standard procedure at that hospital. Like JWWB said, this particular hospital had no nursery, just a NICU, and he had no health issues so he was with me. He was actually very good the whole time (the calm before the storm ), and I don't recall being stressed about it.

yeah yeah
I had a wicked labor. After the 40 hrs, then csection, I was exhausted. They did bring her into me 2 hrs after the surgery- but told me because of how long I labored- it was up to me if I wanted her in there with me the first night. Being sort of out of it- I said that she could stay in the nursery. But for the rest of the 4 days- I had her with me.

Mine both stayed in the nursery at night and were brought to me for breastfeeding on demand.

No more babies for me, but I would never let them stay in the nursery again if I did.

It was inexcusable that a nurse tried to make me breastfeed a baby that was not mine, and she kept insisting it was my baby (charts on the door got switched)

Scary things can happen, and it's best to keep that baby in your sight at all times.

The little guy roomed in with us, yep I was there too, AAMC has beds in the rooms for dad. :yay: I highly recommend this set up, it was especially helpful since she had a c-sec, I was able to pickup on his routine real quick and she didn't need any nurse assistance at feeding time.

Boy 1 had breathing problems so I only saw him for feedings the 1st day, then they let me have him most of the time on Day 2 - He was the only baby there so no fear of switching.
Boy 2 was with me during the day but they took him at night and only brought him in to nurse. There were only 2 other babies there - both girls - so no fear of switching.
Girl was with me the whole time except when I took a shower - then they kept her at the nurses station. There were 6 babies, but moms were on a shower schedule so they never had more than one at the station.

I had mine in the room with me the whole time. Only left when the nurses needed the baby for a bit. I was so ill for the entire pregnancy with some close calls to lose my little one that I didn't want him out of my sight.

you are so right, wenchy!

i had both of mine at calvert so i didn't have a choice, they "room in" there.

but during my stays - my child was the only one in the nursery at the time. but still, you are right.

i remember with my first, we were going through the discharge paperwork. a nurse came in to help and i asked about the 'official' hospital pics they take. they were cutting off the electronic bracelet and anklet when the nurse took her to get the pic taken. i was FRANTIC! i made my husband follow the nurse because my brand new newborn was being taken away by a total stranger with no 'lowjack'!

Didn't have a choice, both times they stayed in the room with me, though the nurses were very helpful and gave me a break to get some sleep.

In My Opinion
I wouldnt let the baby out of my sight if I were you. I did not take my eyes off of my daughter the whole time in the hospital from the time she was popped out until we left.

I know that my daughter is my offspring.

leave it up to the idiots at the hospital to do things and before you know it you are a white couple going home with a chinese/black sumo wrestler with brain damage.
