James Comey Blames His Wife for ‘86 47’ Post on ‘Late Show’ with Colbert: ‘I Thought It Was a Clever Political Message’

Comey also revealed he was strolling the beach with his wife, Patrice, when they viewed the formation of offensive seashells. Comey’s wife posited, “Did someone put their address in the sand?”

The couple stared for a while before Comey said he realized it was likely a “clever political message.” He pointed to his wife for recognizing the term “86” to mean get rid of from her time working as a restaurant server.

He also confirmed to Colbert the Secret Service had since called him in for an interview.

Comey took to Instagram late Thursday evening to defend his actions while deleting the image, as Breitbart News reported.

“I posted earlier a picture of some shells I saw today on a beach walk, which I assumed were a political message. I didn’t realize some folks associate those numbers with violence. It never occurred to me, but I oppose violence of any kind, so I took the post down,” he said.

Dem senator claims to have recordings that could sink Trump’s pick to run IRS

Since the president’s return to the White House, the left has seemingly jumped at every opportunity to obstruct the America First agenda with lawsuits and delay tactics. Tuesday, as the Senate Finance Committee considered the nomination for IRS commissioner, ranking member Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden (D) saw fit to level an allegation in his closing remarks.

“Our staff investigators have on tape now, tax promoters saying you met with him at the inauguration and promised him a favorable private letter ruling,” he said to former Missouri Rep. Billy Long (R) when the nominee would have no opportunity to respond. “We also have on tape the White River CFO, who gave you the thousands of dollars, that he expects favorable treatment of these fake tribal credits.”

Throughout the hearing, lawmakers focused on Long’s work as a tax credit promoter and asserted that he was in the business of selling fake tax credits. To support the notion of a pay-for-play scheme, Wyden highlighted more than $165,000 that had been donated to Long’s dormant Senate campaign in the wake of his nomination, of which the legislator contended “$130,000 went directly into Congressman Long’s pockets when he paid back his personal loans.”

“My only involvement in this matter … was to connect interested friends of mine … just friends, if they had any interest,” Long said during questioning. As for $65,000 in income from the White River Energy firm that had been noted on his financial disclosure, the nominee remarked, “I worked through Capitol Edge Strategies. I didn’t work through — I never talked to anybody at White River. I don’t even know anybody at White River, and I don’t have any way to know who the tribe is, even.”

Leaning into fearmongering, Wyden insisted, “Donald Trump wants to use the IRS as a cudgel to beat his adversaries into submission. He wants to feed its legally-protected data to his masked squads of agents, disappearing people. His nominee to lead the agency is a Trump loyalist through and through, not an independent tax professional or somebody with extensive management experience. And our serious concerns and questions about Congressman Long’s involvement with fraudulent tax schemes have gone unanswered.”

The Hill sought comment from the White House and received a statement from a senior transition official that read, “Congressman Long has never spoken with anyone at White River Energy, nor has he ever made a comment like this to anybody else. These accusers are pathetic, cowardly losers, and it’s notable that this fake news was ‘dropped’ in the final moments of the hearing so that Congressman Long could not respond.”

Which means, if the Democratic Party was gonna make a major PR pivot, we wouldn’t expect the A-Lister to be leading the charge. You’d expect ‘em to come last.

So far, so good!

Over the past few days, a hodgepodge of Donkey D-Listers began making good on my May 16 column:

Prediction: The Democratic Party will be pivoting to attack… the Democratic Party.
A smart, ambitious politician tells the audience what it wants to hear. In many ways, politics is intellectual capitalism; when an opening appears in the marketplace, someone, somewhere, will try to fill it.
And right now, the base of the Democratic Party desperately wants its leaders to be held accountable.
Right on schedule, the wannabe Donkey leaders — guys like ex-presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke, CNN talking head Van Jones, and California gubernatorial candidate (and ex-Los Angeles mayor) Antonio Villaraigosa — have already begun testing the talking point.

That’s the first domino.

The second domino isn’t the A-Listers, but the Democratic Party’s strategists, pundits, and PR experts. (Since this is the Democratic Party, many of their “PR experts” also moonlight as unbiased journalists, but I digress.) Some of them, I’ve gotta think, were smart enough to identify this on their own, but the slower ones will react to the D-Listers. They try to influence the Donkey’s direction via policy papers, polls, op-eds, and media leaks, popularizing certain ideas and building a consensus.

Speaking of which, an interesting story appeared today in The Bulwark, an anti-Trump outlet: “Democrats Consider Tearing Up the Playbook."

Every presidential cycle loss prompts a party to rethink and restructure how it operates. But Democratic strategists say the 2024 defeat and Biden’s handling of his re-election bid created a massive trust issue that the party will have to address. Some compared it to the role that the Iraq war authorization vote played in shaping the 2008 primary—reconfiguring the issues of that race and tanking the candidacies of those who supported the invasion.
One Democratic strategist who worked on a 2008 primary campaign said, “Obama was fortunate because he wasn’t in D.C. so it allowed him to have natural distance. He could say ‘I’m an outsider’ without saying ‘I’m an outsider.’” In other words, since he wasn’t in Congress in 2002, he didn’t have to vote on the Iraq resolution.
In the modern version of that, candidates further removed from the Biden White House will have more credibility and trust among those in the 2028 electorate who feel burned by party leadership. [emphasis added]

CNN’s Jake Tapper, who certainly has a vested financial interest in stoking outrage over Biden’s infirmities, did an interview in today’s New York Magazine. Here’s his take:

One of the reasons why the Democratic Party’s numbers are in the toilet is because there’s a real anger out there at the party. And I believe part of that anger, if not most of it, is rooted in this gaslighting that the Democratic Party did about President Biden’s acuity while (A) obviously we all were watching him in front of the camera, all these moments of being addled, all these moments of tripping and gaffes and such. (B) what we all saw the night of the debate. And (C) now there’s this book that Alex and I wrote, sourced by more than 200 people, most of them Democrats, almost all of them talking to us after the election. We see it was even worse than we thought. [emphasis added]

Crime Rates of Illegal Migrants Underreported

Democrats actively oppose the Trump administration’s efforts to arrest and deport illegal immigrants, despite the administration’s focus on those with criminal histories.

To support their opposition, Democrats frequently claim, almost as an article of faith, that illegal immigrants are less prone to commit crime. “The crime rate among immigrants is far lower than the crime rate among native-born Americans,” New York Rep. Jerrold Nadler asserted confidently. “So the whole issue is wrong.”

“Immigrants commit crimes in this country at a rate lower than natural-born citizens,” added Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy. “So, if you want a safe town or a safe neighborhood, you are better off if you have immigrants.”

FBI’s Disgraced Comey Peddles Ludicrous ‘8647’ Explanation

By Richard Blakley

Talking to “hundreds of top Democratic donors,” July 8, 2024, Biden stated, “We’re done talking about the debate, it’s time to put Trump in a bullseye.” Five days later a “lone wolf” assassin shot Trump in the ear, killed a father, and injured others. September 10, 2024, among 21 other false claims, Kamala stated if Trump were president, President Vladimir Putin “would be sitting in Kyiv with his eyes on the rest of Europe.” Five days later another “lone wolf” assassin with serious and strange ties to Ukraine was caught preparing to kill Trump.

Comey’s post is not funny, nor was it his wife’s fault.

Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, says, Comey should be “put behind bars” for “issuing a call to assassinate [President Donald Trump.]”

Is Comey just expressing his First Amendment rights?

What about the Wichita, Kansas man who in May 2024 sent a Facebook message to a Wichita television station stating that he was going to kill then-President Joe Biden? Obviously, the man needed mental help, but he got 21 months in jail.

What about the Pennsylvania man who in May of 2024 posted a video online threatening to kill then-President Biden and his cabinet? This man was charged with three felony counts and one count of interstate threats and is now facing 20 years in prison.

What about the California man who was sentenced to two years in prison in June of 2024 for threatening to kill President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris?

What about the Florida man who in July of 2024 was found posting threats on X that he wanted to kill then-President Biden? The Secret Service arrested the man, finding him to be “a danger to the community.”

What about the York County, Pennsylvania man who in May of 2025 was sentenced to 24 months in jail for posting threats on the internet against President Biden?

All these were arrested and are either serving time in prison or are in jail awaiting trial. These men were not leaders of a law organization, had no following, nor had loyal agents serving them. None had taken an oath before God to serve their country, including their president, but Comey had it all. Yet, Comey threatened President Trump. To whom much is given, much is required, Mr. Comey.

Perhaps these other men, like Comey, should have stated they didn’t know saying, “assassinate the president,” could be considered a bad thing.
Gabbard stated Comey and his people,

[N]eed to be held to account according to the law… The rule of law says people like him who issue direct threats against the POTUS, essentially issuing a call to assassinate him, must be held accountable under the law.
[snip]
I’m very concerned for the president’s life; we’ve already seen assassination attempts.
[snip]
James Comey, in my view, should be held accountable and put behind bars for this.

Gabbard also said that Comey has a lot of influence and there are “people who take [him] very seriously.”

White House Cabinet Secretary, Taylor Budowich, “While President Trump is currently on an international trip to the Middle East, the former FBI Director puts out what can clearly be interpreted as ‘a hit’ on the sitting President of the United States — a message etched in the sand. This is deeply concerning to all of us and is being taken seriously.”

Jason Chaffetz, host on Hannity, said, “I was the chairman of the oversight committee when James Comey came before us and lectured us on the idea of ‘intent.’ He was so arrogant about his approach on ‘intent’.”

Fox News Legal Analyst Gregg Jarrett stated,

The legal standard is did he know that his public message could be understood as a threat of harm to the president, particularly in the context of two assassination attempts. In other words, did he mean it as a true threat? If so, ‘yes’ he could be prosecuted, because the courts have said that ‘a true threat is not protected as political speech under the First Amendment’. Look, Comey knew exactly what he was doing. [snip] When he was finally forced to testify in the House, …he said, ‘I don’t know’, or ‘I don’t recall’ 226 times. So, his standard backup defense, is always when he gets caught, a sudden case of amnesia or terminal stupidity. He is not stupid. He’s conniving. He’s scheming. He’s unscrupulous. He’s vain-glorious. He’s a truly despicable person. He’s lying about what he did in this case.

Susan Rice is Very Upset That President Trump Doesn’t Review the Intelligence Community Presidential Daily Brief

During a recent podcast interview, President Obama’s former National Security Advisor, Susan Rice, takes the pretending to stratospheric levels needed in order to retain Obama-level pretending. The criticism she rails against is so hilariously hypocritical I find myself wondering if anyone ever were to call her out, could she even respond.

Susan Rice complains about President Trump having a relationship with the duplicitous “Qataris,” who she proclaims are terribly nefarious and dastardly, and no President should have a relationship with Qatar. Laughably, it was Susan Rice herself who constructed the “CIA Finding Memo” for President Obama to sign, which authorized sending Surface to Air missiles to Qatar, which would then be transferred by CIA Director Leon Panetta to Libya. It was Susan Rice herself organizing covert operations inside our government using the horribly nefarious Qataris she now says are terrible.

That’s only one background reality amid more than a dozen points of gaslighting hypocrisy I could point out from this interview. However, for the sake of recent headlines, the part where Susan Rice complains about President Trump not trusting or using the CIA’s Presidential Daily Brief is almost too funny {prompted below}. President Obama famously didn’t put any value on the PDB and didn’t even want it, sending it to almost two-dozen staff so he didn’t have to bother with it. Methinks Mrs Rice doth protest too much. The Democrats' Anti-Electoral College Scheme May Be Imploding

Heading into 2024, there were growing whispers that Trump might once again win the presidency without the popular vote, and it’s easy to imagine how that would have reignited the left’s push to ditch the Electoral College altogether. But thankfully, we’ll never have to find out—because Trump crushed Kamala Harris in both the Electoral College and the national popular vote.

But Maine's experience perfectly illustrates why the compact was always a bad idea. The state joined when Democrats figured Trump could never win the popular vote again. But Trump's decisive popular vote victory in 2024 changed everything. Had the compact been in effect with current members, Trump would have carried a whopping 520 electoral votes, instead of the 312 he actually won.

The irony is delicious. Democrats pushed this compact because they thought it would permanently benefit their party’s candidates.

"We were the first state in the nation to split our Electoral College votes by congressional district—a system that reflects our political diversity and values, every voice, whether rural or urban," said Maine state Rep. Barbara Bagshaw, who sponsored the withdrawal bill. "By joining the National Popular Vote Compact, we have undermined that."

Bagshaw's got a point. Maine and Nebraska are the only two states that split their electoral votes by congressional district rather than winner-take-all. This system actually gives rural and urban voters meaningful representation—something the popular vote compact would completely destroy.

Talk about buyer's remorse.

Now that Trump has proven he can win both the Electoral College and the popular vote, blue states are scrambling for the exits. Make no mistake about it—if Maine successfully withdraws, other states may follow. The compact was built on the false premise that Republicans couldn't win the national popular vote, and Trump just shattered that illusion completely.

Is this the beginning of the end of the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact?

When You've Lost 'The Nation,' Democrats, You're Really Losing Bad

The Democrats, of course, are united by one belief that they hold above all others: Control. They are collectivists, and whenever collectivism has been tried, it's ended up in subjugation, serfdom, and slavery. There are no old collectivist nations. The largest attempt, the Soviet Union, collapsed under the weight of its own insane, centrally controlled economic policies. China has survived this long mostly by allowing some (no more than they can help) free-market capitalism to take root.

Look at the nations that are economic success stories: The United States, for example. Every economy has its ups and downs, and ours is no exception. But we still have a pretty good standard of living, and as long as we're free to make our own choices, we'll keep it. We want to make our own decisions, not only in economic matters, but in our kids' upbringings, in the vehicles we drive, where we live, and what we do for fun. That's what the Democrats don't understand. That's why they're losing.

One of my literary heroes, Robert Heinlein, wrote:

Political tags — such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth — are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire. The former are idealists acting from highest motives for the greatest good of the greatest number. The latter are surly curmudgeons, suspicious and lacking in altruism. But they are more comfortable neighbors than the other sort.

He was, of course, correct. All politicians, of course, want to control us to some extent; that's what government does. But we know the sort Heinlein was writing about. So does Jeet Heer, whether he admits it out loud or not. And I know which sort I prefer to have as neighbors. But another Heinlein saying may apply even more to today's left:

Some people insist that ‘mediocre’ is better than ‘best.’ They delight in clipping wings because they themselves can’t fly. They despise brains because they have none.

Latinos may have bought into the Democrat argument about racism against Republicans and being some kind of oppressed minority - but it's not working.

Outside of that - CULTURALLY, Latinos are almost BORN Republicans - deeply religious, fanatically pro-family and tradition and strongly about men being men, and women being women, in much more traditional roles than your typical white American. If you were to just use general terms about trying to describe a family of Republicans, you would find yourself very easily drawing an Hispanic family.

I think they're realizing that, now that the veneer of race-baiting has ended.
