Everyone has heard the nightmares of veterans not getting the help they need, getting poor help, the VA hospital my grandfather was in actually had a nurse convicted as a serial killer for killing several patients.

The VA has the largest number of federal employees of any government agency.

What is everyone's thoughts, should they be downsized?

Interesting question. I'm a Marine Corps vet - 1966 to 1970. I have never used any services under the VA. My dad, a WW2 vet, did use the VA in his later years for his hearing aids, but he didn't use them for his main medical treatments. He retired from the Post Office so all his medical was through that system.

I have received over the last 2- 2&1/2 years a few mailings regarding the water system at Camp Lejeune, where I was based for about 8-9 weeks after Paris Island in 1966. Since I have been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer (in 2022) I took the paperwork to my oncologist to see if the cancers the VA listed applied to me, none did. That is the only contact I have had regarding the VA.

I'm not sure about downsizing but they should absolutely have their budgets reviewed for any type of waste and fraud. If items are exposed, then corrections have to be made and if "departments" are not needed then I guess some would call that downsizing... MHO.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

My grandfather actually liked being in the VA hospital (compared to a regular one) surrounded by other WW2 vets instead of a bunch of random people.

I've only had limited interactions that were excellent .. I know there are LOTS of Problems

the issue is EFFICIENCY, fraud, waste and abuse ... long wait times - buried by changing the process ... people waiting MONTHS, not being put on ' the list ' until they were ready do be seen

SOCIALIZED Medicine is a HUGE Sink Hole there is NO way around that ...
I am going to assume there are 10 - 20 % useless employees, there is room for improvement, then a shortage of personal like doctors

a guy posted on Twix in a VA thread he was labeled RACIST for asking for a Doctor who SPOKE ENGLISH

He also shot down a CNN reporter yesterday when she asked a question. He told her she wasn't allowed to speak yet. 😂
Trump also have a "parting gift" he left for Ms Kaitlan Collins at the end of the signing when she did ask hime about Putin...

"
President Donald Trump locked horns with CNN's Kaitlan Collins as he signed a reciprocal tariff plan at the White House Thursday, saying her network has "no credibility."

As he held up the signed plan for the cameras of the press gathered in the Oval Office, Collins began asking, "Mr. President, you won the White House, in part, because of high inflation. If your tariffs make prices go up-"

"Excuse me," Trump replied, "We haven't asked you to speak yet."

Then the follow up... lol

"I believe he wants peace," Trump told one reporter. "I believe that President Putin- when I spoke to him yesterday- I know him very well. I think he wants peace. Yeah, I think he would tell me if he didn’t. I would like to see peace."

"Do you trust President Putin?" Collins asked.

Trump said Russia wants the war to end, arguing that the conflict easily could have been avoided.

Trump went on to argue that some sort of negotiation to stop the war "should have been done by Biden years ago. This should have never been allowed to happen. I know he’s a friend of yours," he said to Collins.

"But couldn’t Putin just withdraw-" she began.

"He’s a friend of CNN. That’s why nobody watches CNN anymore, because they have no credibility," Trump said, before moving on.

Guess you missed the memo? They already tossed a bunch of their employees included disabled vets.

My understanding is that they're already understaffed.

But DOGE isn't about firing government workers. It's about cutting obsolete or ineffective programs/agencies. The Democrats are flooding the universe with hysteria and bullshit, which is where you all are getting your wacky ideas.

So should the VA be audited? Well....yeah.
