I have a lot of respect for the people doing the job, I often question the direction / guidance they are working under. That would start with our political leaders on down to the State's Attorney.
Like any organization there are good and bad officers. For the most part the Deputies are friendly and really want to help. Occasionally you run across a State Trooper wannabe (a BA).
I'd say most are in shape, I will also say that there are a few chubby bunnies.
But they are suppose to reflect the community and well, we have grouchy people and chubby bunnies all over.
The deserve a decent wage and benefits. I was told by one officer that they have to plan on a second career because at some point they will have to retire and cannot afford to live on that retirement. It's a tough job, it's a dangerous job on a good day. Unfortunately we (the fine citizens) value an "entertainer" more than a law enforcement officer.
Our priorities are not always where they should be.
