Describe Heaven and/or aferlife

Everyone has at some time or another lost a loved one or in many cases possibly faced a life-threatening situation. It is at these times that we tend to ponder, even if only for a brief moment – Where do we go from here? What is heaven? What will heaven be like?

Whatever religious affiliation we’re born into, whether we choose to practice that religion or another or no religion at all, we grow up learning about God and the afterlife. We learn by what we read and what we hear from others. Whether we believe what we learn, in whole or in part, or even not at all, we forever remain susceptible to listening to the ideas of others, if just for the sake of gaining the insight and possibly a newfound enlightening hope for ourselves to believe in. It’s just a natural human tendency to yearn for some spiritual answer to the lifelong question of – what’s next? Where do we go when we leave this life? Although we know that no living individual knows any more than we ourselves know, we enjoy hearing it anyway, from anyone willing to share his or her thoughts on the subject with us.

When all is said and done, we form our own unique picturesque vision in our minds of what heaven is or may be like, that is ours alone. It may be similar to what we’ve heard or read from others, but in many ways each of our visions is unique in its own way.

“Our Heaven Project” is a work in progress, out to gather and publish thousands of individual thoughts and beliefs about heaven and the afterlife, in one book. A book compiled of quotes offered by individuals like yourself who are willing to share your own unique image of what heaven and the afterlife may be like. The ideas and beliefs of thousands of individuals of all ages and from all walks of life published together within one book.

THE PURPOSE:

There are literally tens of millions of people on this earth who are suffering terminal illnesses or suffer because a loved one is suffering or has already succumbed to illnesses or sudden death. At times like these is when we are most interested in hope of afterlife, but discussion is not readily available. We at “Our Heaven Project” feel that a book of thoughts and ideas about heaven and the afterlife, provided by individuals like you, will be a great source of comfort and inspiration to others in their time of need.

The book will be distributed to hospitals, hospice organizations, and support groups around the world, to be offered - free of charge - to the terminally ill and their families; as an inspirational tool to help ease the fear that comes at that time in our lives. The book will also be made available to the public – in various languages – through the various retail outlets, both on the internet and in local bookstores around the world.

Never before has a work been published that offers the inspirational and enlightening thoughts of so many, on a subject so important to all.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

We at “Our Heaven Project” ask that you take a few quiet moments to use your imagination and write down what you envision heaven and the afterlife to be like, and share that vision with us – the world. The benefit to others in need will be enormous. In a world blanketed with negativity and turmoil at this time, treat this as an opportunity to a part of something positive and possibly helpful to others along the way.

We have recently created the OurHeavenProject Google group where all are welcome to join and visit. There you can view ongoing updates on our project, read some entries that others have submitted, and/or post your own entries to be submitted to our book. We’re also hopeful that the group will become a place for enlightening discussions on the subject for all to enjoy.

You may post your entry in reply here if you wish to share it with the other readers in this particular group, but only entries submitted directly by email or posted at the OurHeavenProject Google group may be used and published in our book.

I died and came back.
Other people have as well.
I know I no longer fear death in any way shape or form.
I know that death can be the most peaceful joyful experience ever.
I also know that we don't die until our purpose has been served.

I think that after we die, it will be just like before we were born. Do you remember before you were born?

I would imagine you'ld be hard pressed to find anyone who can remember their first 1 or two years after being born. Yet you where indeed alive, yes?

Shoot, I can remember back to where I was maybe 3 or 4 years old. It was definitely before kindergarten, because all day long, I was playing in the yard with my cousin and my sister, learning to ride my bike, and being chased around the house by my mother- "If I get my hands on you, you're gonna have a red ass!"

Before that, who knows?

I guess I don't follow you in your post. Are you saying, that before you are born you are not alive?

Well, the OP was inquiring about the afterlife, and IMO, what we feel after we are dead is the same as what we felt before we were born. I certainly don't remember anything before I was born, so........

curious opinion...for myself I find it impossible to think that my thoughts would simply cease and there would be nothing.

Someone (I think C.S. Lewis) once said that thirst doesn't prove that we have ever drank but it proves that water exists. The fact that we desire something proves that it exists. As humans we are incapable of conjuring up some desire for something that doesn't exist. In every culture, all though out time, you find normal people who desire eternal life.

I hope that doesn't sound cheesy. I'm sure that C.S. Lewis put it better. If you think about Mr. Lewis' words with an open mind they are really intriguing.

Umm... An interesting thought that I have pondered over more than a few times and come up with the following conclusion.

The most common believe is that your soul, spirit lives on after the death of your body.
The phrase Rest in Peace has a little more depth with my theory.

Just before the alarm clock goes off every morning, you're at this peaceful state where you can dream of anything that makes you happy.
But that damn alarm clock...Snooze trying to get back to that perfect peaceful dream.

Lets call this rest in peace or Haven.

You can't sleep you toss and turn all night, and have bad dreams because you might not have done the right thing that day. Restlessness.

Lets call this Hell

Mystery solved with simplicity and not hard to swallow.

I desire to fly without the aid of a plane or any device strapped to me.

does that mean that I should come on down and launch myself off of the solomons bridge tomorrow at rush hour?

wait, dont answer that.

Can you wait until the next sunny Sunday afternoon to fly cape-less?
It would make a great forum gathering, we've never seen a real life super hero fly before.

That is actually a very good question.
First of all, please do not under any circumstances attempt unassisted flight.
Second, look carefully at the post. C. S. Lewis basically said that your desire to fly is no promise that you will ever be able to fly but it proves that there is such a thing as flight. If flight didn't exist, you would never even be capable of desiring it.

Actually, I do!

I believe your comment is closely related to the reason for publishing a book on perceptions of heaven/hell or afterlife.

There are many people who suffer from terminal illness and old age who are in despair. The book will help enlighten them in their passing over.EVEN IF there is nothing to pass over too! This isn't so bad. Humans, the itelligent species, MUST to be reassured of a positive outcome for our civilized acts.

I, myself, have heard or witnessed the "coming to believe" at the 11th hour.
This, has reinforced my thoughts on the whole "afterlife" concept.

Even the most vile human being, on their death bed, can come to peace with their maker. I have seen it happen. Is this beacause they want to slip off peacefully, or is this because they really have a glimpse? Who knows?

I don't know if I would accept their instant spiritual change as anything more than a last ditch effort to say..."I'm sorry I was an A-hole all my life..." just in case. :coffee:

:yeahthat: That's true and it does often happen. The story of the thief on the cross is proof that God allows "death bed repentances". Jesus only told a little bit about Heaven because it is too magnificent for our finite minds to understand. (1 Corinthians 2 v 9).
Also, God allows people to be "saved" ONLY as long as they're alive. Once they're dead, there is no changing their eternal home. I believe God knows that some will wait until their "death beds" to get saved; (those that get a death bed chance). God does allow some to "have a glimpse" of Heaven also. I've talked to people who died, then came back to life and have described it as a bright light coming towards them and a feeling of total peacefullness. It will "make a believer" out of some. I don't think I'd want a book with everyones concept of Heaven. That would be like wikipedia. Anyones opinion is valid.
