I guess wx thinks energy can be destroyed. I think he and Einstein would disagree.Roughidle said:curious opinion...for myself I find it impossible to think that my thoughts would simply cease and there would be nothing.
If it is a "just in case," God knows. If it is sincere, God knows. The first "last ditch repentance" was on a cross next to Jesus.Roughidle said:I don't know if I would accept their instant spiritual change as anything more than a last ditch effort to say..."I'm sorry I was an A-hole all my life..." just in case.
Luke 23:39-47
39One of the criminals who were hanged there was hurling abuse at Him, saying, "Are You not the Christ? Save Yourself and us!"
40But the other answered, and rebuking him said, "Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?
41"And we indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong."
42And he was saying, "Jesus, remember me when You come in Your kingdom!"
43And He said to him, "Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise."
44It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour,
45because the sun was obscured; and the veil of the temple was torn in two.
46And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, "Father, INTO YOUR HANDS I COMMIT MY SPIRIT." Having said this, He breathed His last.
47Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he began praising God, saying, "Certainly this man was innocent."
I once talked with a person who said they had died and been brought back and they saw terrible darkness and felt total misery. They said if that was a glimpse of hell, they didn't want to go there. For that reason, they believed in Jesus.ItalianScallion said:That's true and it does often happen. The story of the thief on the cross is proof that God allows "death bed repentances". Jesus only told a little bit about Heaven because it is too magnificent for our finite minds to understand. (1 Corinthians 2 v 9).
Also, God allows people to be "saved" ONLY as long as they're alive. Once they're dead, there is no changing their eternal home. I believe God knows that some will wait until their "death beds" to get saved; (those that get a death bed chance). God does allow some to "have a glimpse" of Heaven also. I've talked to people who died, then came back to life and have described it as a bright light coming towards them and a feeling of total peacefullness. It will "make a believer" out of some. I don't think I'd want a book with everyones concept of Heaven. That would be like wikipedia. Anyones opinion is valid.
I've heard that also. I believe whatever works to get someone saved (if morally OK) is fair game. I try to share the love of Christ with them first but sometimes I've tried to "scare the hell out of them" too. Some kids tell me that they are scared to death about going to hell and I tell them wherever you end up is YOUR choice, so choose Heaven.2ndAmendment said:I once talked with a person who said they had died and been brought back and they saw terrible darkness and felt total misery. It's is more serene than anything you can imagine. The stillness, the quietness is not frightening, but comforting. It's kind of like the descriptions I've heard of being in a sensory deprivation tank. The beauty is beyond human comprehension, ethereal is a mild adjective. Love, the feeling of love, the warmth that floods your being when you love and receive love, is more than you have ever imagined or experienced. Yet, you don't actually "feel" touch/taste/smell anything, you are just encompassed by it all. I have a difficult time using words and adjectives to actually describe it, because it is all those wonderful words we use and more.river rat said:Well

It sounds wonderful, but how do you know this is how it is? I have lost loved ones and I want to think they are somewhere that good.migtig said:It's is more serene than anything you can imagine. The quickest version - I was killed in a car accident by another driver. I was killed on impact. I had to be pried out of my vehicle. EMT's worked on bringing me back the whole way to the hospital. At the hospital I was resuscitated. So I was legally dead for a while...55Chevy said:how do you know this is how it is?
