Maybe they took it away from him after he shot his buddy in the face. He obviously has problems with his aim...

Actually, the revised is still wrong. Prediction:
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/outlooks/hurricane.shtml
12-15 named storms
7-9 becoming hurricanes
3-4 becoming major hurricanes (Cat 3-5)

Reality (so far...I guess there's still a possibility):
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/2006atlan.shtml
9 named storms
5 becoming hurricanes
I can't seem to find how many became major.

Sorry, only 2 major hurricanes. I thought Flornece became one but it was Category 2.

hurricane season?

...but it missed us and, frankly, if dodging a bullet like this, if getting yet another second chance doesn't wake us ALL up and stir us to action, to do what needs to be done and make travel arraignments, we all deserve to never, EVER get to go to New Orleans.

What's the big deal about weather folks revising predictions as they get new data...

...the 'Day After Tomorrow'? There is no predictions. There is only deaths pocket watch and he keeps the time. We can't choose when. We can't choose how. If you don't move to Mexico, NOW, you have no one to blame but yourself.

That's the one of the flaws we have here in America. If we don't have the same tragedy happen year after year, we forget it ever happened. :ohwell:

Are we counting all the Pacific Storms and Hurricanes? Maybe they didn't have their co-ordinates set right?

You and Kerad are obviously young men. Wait and see how good your aim is when you're 60+. The lighting in the bathroom is never bright enough at that age.

Now I won’t try to make a political rebuttal to your comment. I believe it was an accident, and if the victim forgave him, why cant anyone else.

Kerad on the other hand will. (He doesn’t like the current administration)

See, this is because you guys don't know what you're talking about. Increased hurricanes are a sign of global warming because the rise in temperature wreaks havoc with the planet. And decreased hurricanes are a sign of global warming as well because it means the planet isn't exactly the same as it always was, which is bad. If hurricane activity remains the same as the previous year, it means global warming isn't under control yet and is still destroying our planet.

Get with the program.

I've been working in DC too long, because that made perfect sense to me.

There were two major hurricanes this year. That's still ABOVE AVERAGE. This is also the 4th straight year there have been 2 or more major hurricanes in the same year. However, unlike the past 3 years, there wasn't a Category 5 storm.
An "average" hurricane season means we can expect eight to 11 tropical storms; of these five to seven could develop into full-fledged hurricanes. Note, however, that not all hurricanes ever strike land.
We still had 5 hurricanes. So we were not below average, on the technicallity of a MAJOR hurricane, we were above average.

I think that the word "average" is the wrong way to discuss hurricanes. The hurricane seasons go through cycles of quiet years and more active years, and there will be different conditions in each year that may cause more or less storms than what we expected. So the variations of one or two years are pretty meaningless; only if we stayed above average for quite a number of years does it begin to mean anything. But politics and the media sure as hell aren't going to wait that long before the hand-wringing, dire predictions and blame get started.
