I knew someone who got it, too, but it wasn't from tampons.

AND something else: Now ALL tampons (sorry guys) must carry a warning about TSS, even though the only one that ever was shown as a risk was Rely, because they were designed to be left in for days. Which is just unhygenic, unsanitary and disgusting - a breeding ground for bacteria. :dead:
My best friend from high school's younger sister died from this. It doesn't surprise me that she was unhygienic but it's a topic that still isn't talked about much in his family.

Not me, I nearly died from Swine Flu in the 80's then I nearly died from Bird Flu but I was finally done in my a chunk of Ice falling off a building in DC after eating expired meat products from Giant.
I survived all that, only to be shot by the Beltway Sniper. :ohwell:

Isn't there an asteroid heading right for us? Gonna kill us all in 2036, or something like that?

Google "Near earth approach" and do a little reading. There's some interesting stuff out there. We have a 100 meter asteroid approaching almost within the moons orbit in just over a week!

My mother REFUSED to let any of the other of us girls still living at home use them.

But back to the topic in general - sensationalism via the media can really do a number on individual mentality. As discussed in other threads, they can pull numbers, figures and percentages out of their azz, siting a source that may not only be NOT credible, but a bit engrossed in their tiny subset case study that they've no realization of the mass impact - regardless of the institution or research laboratory some of these "findings" come out with.

Unless bird flu gets us first.
I read an article the other day about how a bird flu pandemic would affect people as far as not being able to go to the grocery store to get food. Paragraph after paragraph about how many people would risk starvation. Then, at the end, a tiny little sentence saying there is no evidence a pandemic would ever reach the US, and the likelihood is very slim. :ohwell: Stupid.

Well, would you have read the article if they started off by saying it was unlikely it would ever affect you in the slightest?

I keep thinking about Summer of the Shark, when there was all this media hysteria. Then statistics showed that actually there were FEWER shark attacks that year than in previous years.

You know....I recall first hearing about TSS, but I don't remember the specifics. But they were really designed to be left in for DAYS?????

That is just nasty.

I remember them and yes, they were. :dead:

In 1975, Procter and Gamble introduced superabsorbent Rely tampons, in response to women's demands for tampons which could contain an entire menstrual flow without leaking or replacement. Rely used carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and compressed beads of polyester for absorption. This tampon design could absorb nearly 20 times its own weight in fluid. Further, the tampon would "blossom" into a cup shape in the vagina in order to hold menstrual fluids.

Last night FOX 5 did a scare story about the horrors of outdated packaged meat :jameo: If it has expired and you eat it you will get sick! :jameo: And if you discover it is expired and take it back half the stores will put it back on the shelf. 3/4 of the way through they had a doctor who said even if packaged cooked meat was 5 or even 10 days beyond it's expired date chances of you getting ill are slim. :lmao: At the very end of the report a very serious looking somber female reporter in her best motherly tone showed a bag of expired meat to the camera and said "Fox 5 takes this very seriously so we bought all the expired meat products they used in their investigation so consumers would not buy them by accident.

I saw that too and laughed, because early in the report they showed them returning expired meats and the store putting back on the shelf.

See this is why i believe we as a society are to blame for all the functioning retards walking around wasting oxygen. We have disrupted natural selection.

Think about it:

If Jethro and Mildred go to Giant and buy a bloated package of Hillshire Farms Kielbasa, ignoring the 20 day passed expiration date that has swollen to 3 times its regular size, take it home and poke it with the paring knife and gag from the stench of the escaping gas, YET still eat it, they deserve to die on the shiatter. But ohhhhhhhh nooooooooo FOX 5 is going to save them :nono: "Jethro, don't eat that rotten meat!"
