Did you leave your dog in the car today?

but but but.... oxygen levels in a vehicle are depleted after 61 minutes!!! :cds:

That's something I don't understand:

I leave the window cracked for Apollo if I have to go in somewhere and leave him in the car, but I'm not really sure why. The vents are open so it's not like the car is hermetically sealed.

So seriously, is there a real reason to crack the windows when sitting in the car or leaving your dog in the car? This is assuming a cool overcast day where the dog wouldn't bake like an apple because obviously you wouldn't leave the dog in the car then.

I found the answer to my question!

You crack the windows so the air will circulate.

This was found after I weeded through the animal nutty posts, one of which suggested that if you have to leave your dog in the car you should keep the vehicle running and put the A/C on, or tie the dog to a nearby tree.

I am guessing you are one of those nutty people that has to take your animal with you everywhere you go?

I have called the police before for a dog left in a car. It was 97 degrees out and the dog was in obvious distress. Some people don't have your common sense and leave dogs in the car for a lot longer than a couple of minutes. I was at True value in LTown a couple weeks ago and there was a dog in a car, not in distress but it was hot out. I waited and saw the person come out after 15 minutes. I didn’t call the police. Plus, it depends on the breed of the dog. I certainly wouldn’t consider myself a busybody, I just happen to like dogs a lot more than most people. :killingme

Dogs don't sweat they pant. Would you like to sit in a hot car breathing heavy of the same stale air? Even cracking the windows on a hot day, the car could heat up 20 degrees hotter than the outside temps.

Haven't seen it here much except in the cooler months, but I've seen little old ladies carrying their little dogs in every store, bank, hair salon, nail salon. I don't get why they just can't leave them at home. I doubt very seriously that the dog is enjoying waiting while they get their pedicure or hair cut.

I like to take my dogs with me in the cooler months. They just love car rides. My rule of thumb is if it's warmer than 65 degrees, they stay home.

My dogs love love love love love love love love love love car rides, too.

I would've loved to take one with me to the store today when I popped in to get some creamer. It took me less that ten minutes and if it would've taken much longer I would've just left. I didn't though, because I'm always afraid someone will go to the extreme and call the cops or break my window without knowing that my dogs are very well taken care of.

Yes, I understand that people are much less responsible and honestly I'm grateful for people that step in and save dogs but I hate it that the irresponsibles have ruined it for others.

We used to take the dogs when it was below a certain temp but now we don't do that either. The dogs only get to go on car rides when someone can stay in the car with them or when they are going on specific doggy outings like hiking or whatever.
